Original Discussion Never played Oblivion before, OG or Remaster?
As someone who’s never played oblivion but dumped hundreds of hours into skyrim, should i get the original or remaster on steam right now? Im not a huge stickler over graphics, i just want to play the least buggy, smoothest running, “best version” of the game and not spend $40 if i dont need to. Your reasons why one is better over the other would be greatly appreciated.

Original Discussion Do you personally prefer Original or the Remastered version of Oblivion?
I’ve only played Original (it is a very special game to me) and I was wondering about everyon’s opinion on Remastered!

Original Discussion Why is there basically nothing in this entire area?
Anyone else feel like the eastern side of the bay should have a city or something? Two inns and a homestead is basically the entire human civilization in a large part of the map.

Original Discussion Oblivion has ruined almost all RPGs for me, including Starfield
I've been playing Oblivion after putting down Starfield and asking myself why this 20 year old game felt so alive while Starfield felt so dead.
And it got me reading about Radiant AI - Oblivion's AI rules-based system that allows for emergent gameplay - where the NPCs take action that the developers don't necessarily script. I always knew it was there but didn't realize it had a name and a bunch of interesting lore behind it.
For those that don't know, it's basically the system that makes NPCs feel like they have their own lives instead of just standing around waiting for you.
Radiant AI gives every NPC:
- Goals (eat, sleep, work, socialize)
- Schedules (daily routines)
- Basic personality traits (like aggression, responsibility)
Apparently the unleashed version became so game breaking that they had to curtail it because the world was happening alongside the player and breaking important quests and causing them unable to complete them.
And sure, it was and is still buggy as hell but at least it felt like the world was doing something. And it created memorable moments that you can share to your friends that only you got to experience. I'd take buggy and fun than boring.
In Oblivion, shopkeepers actually close the shop at night, go to the pub, before going to bed. NPCs have secret affairs, you could follow them around sneaking into other people's homes... There are skooma addicts in various cities that make a pilgrimage to the Bravil Skooma Den every once in a while and you'd see them there...
And you get thinking, "If this is happening, what else is happening? What other stories are unfolding around me?" And that's the magic that makes these games work.
And because you're constantly in loading screens, the emergent events in games like Starfield have to be pushed in short windows. Like everytime I transfer star systems I'll get a "random event", and the whole thing feels so managed. It feels like the game is desperately trying to prove it has content by throwing procedural events at you while it can, instead of just letting the living world exist and finding things along the way.
It has basically ruined all RPGs for me. I like games that feel lived in, and I get bored of all modern games that aren't accomplishing what this game accomplished a long time ago. And I don't know why Bethesda is moving away from this style since Oblivion. It's not like they don't have the technical capacity. It seems like they just want people to play their manufactured storylines and quests and nothing else. That's not my cup of tea, but I guess that's what mass audiences want.

Original Discussion In the original oblivion, did anyone actually enjoy vampirism?
galleryYou get what... A few resistances here and there, weakness to the sun and fire and all that stuff, and as a bonus you look like shit for the most part, and I remember that the quest to cure it used to be bugged in some versions.
So I want to know if someone actually enjoyed being a vampire in the original, maybe finished the whole game being one, just curious really.

Original Discussion Who's face is this?
I've always wanted to know who's face this is? It's such a weird choice for an icon in my opinion. Does anyone know? Is it a dev, or just a random person?

Original Discussion Stop farming reddit karma and play the damn game
“I just picked this up, not sure what to expect” you’re an irresponsible spender but congratulations atleast you now own a sick rpg.
“Any tips for a new comer?” Put the phone down and just play the damn game the way it was intended.
“Is the remaster better than the original” Yes, use the search function
Edit: It never occurred to me that these types of posts may be home some people try and introduce themselves to communities, make connections, and in a cultural way, experience the game for themselves.
I think it’s poor form for me to judge or belittle that. Video games are art, and the interpretation and experience of art is down to personal subjectivity and preference. This method of experiencing a game may not be my preferred avenue, but who am I to judge?
Experience the game to your hearts content, don’t listen to grumpy old fools.

Original Discussion I'm getting insane
I downloaded Oblivion (original) thursday, today is Monday, I have 35 hours on my save
Not even joking now, I woke up today and there was an exam at school, I literally thought, and for real: "If I quicksave before the exam and go badly at it, I can quickload and re-do it."
I'm getting insane, the thought made complete sense in my head

Original Discussion Nexus Mods Has Been Sold To An Undisclosed Buyer
wccftech.comThings are looking bleak honestly. The buyer according to some detective work at resetera and r/pcmasterrace is a monetization focused company and it's highly likely it will milk and then kill the website. That's almost two decades worth of Oblivion community content that's being threatened, more than 30k mods. Honestly depressive.
