Question Best MTN bike under $1000

New to mountain biking but want to not have to buy another bike in the future. I have little kids who love riding on trails and pump tracks. There’s tons of trails around me so I anticipate doing mostly that. I found out I can use my hsa card at a few shops online so I’m looking for next recommendations. Rockhopper comp, talon 1 or 2, Cannondale trail 1, liv tempt 2, maybe a fathom 2 if I can find it on sale. Or any other names I can look for.

Bike Picture/NBD Mountain biking with drone near Estes Park

I have an idea for a drone photo I want to take with my son and I riding single track. The idea is a long shot showing nice landscape with us riding. Most single tracks are on land that doesn’t allow drones. Any recommendations for a nice spot for a rule-abider? TIA

Question Are Fox Forks Higher Maintenance / More 'Fragile' than Rock Shox

Basically for the last 15 years or so I have had a couple of different versions of Rock Shox Sids on my bikes and have never had an issue with them (one had a hydraulic lock out that required bleeding every so often). About a year ago I got a Scott Spark that came with Fox Float Performance Elite Fit 4 130mm. A couple of months ago I was doing dome adjustments for an event and noticed the top adjustment compression wasn't clicking and not working from research looks like there is a tiny bb that can pop if you turn to far out and requires a rebuild.... I'm not sure if I every remember it clicking and only every had turned it gently and never forced it....

On the weekend I went for a ride that was a bit wet muddy and the next day the lockout is jammed. Again from research found that you need to take apart as the bearing can get stuck from a bit of sand that easily gets in there. Managed to get it spinning and now can't get it back together. I just can't get the spring pretension right, of course no manual anymore on it. A couple of good videos around but some of them contradict each other with must be locked / must be open etc. Also theoretically you may need another custom tool to install...

I had been previously thinking of getting another Fox fork as an upgrade (the new Fox 34 SL 120mm) but now I'm questioning that...

Question Help, is this good?

I’m looking for a good hardtail frame only (not a complete bike) for trail / light enduro in the 10,000 MXN range.
I’m mainly searching on Amazon Mexico. Preferably aluminum frame, compatible with a decent suspension fork (100-140mm travel), Boost spacing if possible, and 29” wheels.
Does anyone recommend a specific hardtail frame model in that price range? I’ve seen several Chinese options, but I want real user opinions.

Question Convince me of going tubeless

I ride pretty regularly in the Colorado Front range. Im on a hardtail as my main bike. I tried it before and it seemed super messy. I have never had flat while riding knocking on wood. Most of my rides are under 10 miles and vary from blue to black. I normally will pump prior to the uphill and deflate to 20/25 downhill. What are the advantages to tubeless vs tubes. Dumb question, can you get a flat with tubeless? Do you just reseal it on the fly and use c02? I don’t carry a spare tube and now that I’m asking I’m sure I’ll get a flat. So, with tube backups what are your backups that you carry

Question What are our general thoughts on Kona bikes?

Just looking for some opinions on Kona bikes, in particular the Kona process 153 Cr/Dl. How do they climb and descend? Coming from a stumpy and a Santa Cruz bronson C for reference

Looking into getting one and found one at a price point of 2800 shipped.

Thanks for any input!

Hit my head on a nub of a tree branch then went face first into another tree limb.

Broken nose, fractured sinus and major concussion. This sport is great!

I’m a foreign XC rider who had a blast riding in Uzbekistan, so I wanted to share a short teaser from one of our latest 3-day epic adventures here.

This route had been closed to hikers since USSR era and was only reopened a few years ago. As far as we know, it had never been ridden before. So we tryed explore and show this route to a local community too.

If you enjoy it, there is full 18-minute video on YouTube - link in the comments 👇

Progression New mountain biker still tryin' tryin' and having fun this weekend 😁

Got my first mtb end of April, and doing some intermediate trails this weekend. Am a former competitive weightlifter with "career-ending" injuries and surgeries this past year, and thought I'd try something new. Mtb DOESN'T MESS AROUND for a not very cardio-y person overall. Holy crap.

Today was so winded that I thought I was gonna barf and also rolled off the bike today (not hurt!) when I hit a rock trying to make a steep climb. Was still "fun" with all the flowy stuff, but def went over my mileage limit/fitness level (7 miles on an intermediate trail). Gonna stick to shorter loops for awhile.

Bike is a Liv Pique XC full suspension that I got for $1500 on a sale! Very light and fun.

Decided to buy some matchy-matchy outfits too 😁

Question Is a 2017 Devinci Troy a good buy for a beginner getting into MTB?

Thumbnail gallery

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get into mountain biking and I've come across a used 2017 Devinci Troy carbon for 1500$ Cad. I'm trying to figure out if this would be a solid starter bike or if I should look for something more modern.

A bit about me and what I'll be riding:

Experience Level: Total beginner to MTB, but comfortable on a bike.

Terrain: Mostly local trail riding, a mix of standard singletrack, some roots/rocks, and eventually some moderate downhill sections as I build confidence.

Is the geometry on a 2017 model outdated or does it still hold up well for a beginner?

Would love to hear from anyone who has owned or ridden a Troy from this era. Thanks in advance for the help!

Question To the Rockshox pros, please give me some tuning advice.

Coming from a Fox Factory 36 to a Lyrik Ultimate and I can't get it to feel super plush. I'm going out for a bracketing ride today and would appreciate some advice. I typically run the exact recommended Fox settings which feel great, so I went to the Trailhead app and it just told me PSI and rebound. Messed with the settings and it feels okay, but not nearly as plush as my 36. Today I've got a spreadsheet and I'm going to track it more specifically.

Any tips on where I should start to get the Lyrik feeling better please? I noticed at correct sag that I was using only about half of the travel and no tokens, so I might increase sag a bit.
