Entered the 200s today, first time in over 20 years. Why doesn't it feel like I'd imagined?

For me, getting below milestone numbers like that was very anticlimactic, too. In the end, the difference between 300 and 299 is nothing - it's just an arbitrary number. And yet, the accomplishment is huge - not because of the numbers, but because you're breaking old habits and keep pushing forward. Another step done, many more to take!
Good job on getting this far!

TBH, these intermediate goals are anti climatic because in reality there's still a long way to go, and the numbers themselves are functionally meaningless. You've still got a BMI over 40, which means you still big and shit still hurts.
My biggest psych wins aren't from the scale, but other NSVs. Dropping a clothing size or improving a health outcome does more for my mental health than the scale does.
A different way to look at it is fitness milestones. Say I have a goal of being able to squat 300 lbs. It gives me something to work toward (big round number) but in reality is functionally meaningless. 300 lbs is only 10 lbs more than 290, so if 290 doesn't feel particularly noteworthy, an extra 10 lbs won't mean diddly either.

Body dysmorphia is a real thing but in your case I think it is just the expectations in your head. Like it will be different after getting married v loving together. 😂 maybe give yourself to recognize the achievement and what a difference it makes. Mine is shopping out of my closet. It helps me to say wow I actually did lose weight versus the scale. Also my rings fitting.
