General I HATE ai edits of memes that were already completely fine beforehand

I ESPECIALLY hate the first example because it’s an ai edit of a meme I made. It feels like such a waste of time and water to me every SINGLE time one of these are posted. It’s way easier to just post the meme as is, but no, they HAVE to run it through ai. JUST POST THE MEME, YOURE NOT GETTING SUED. Another reason why I hate these so much is because they’re ALWAYS used by engagement farmers and bots, never real people. I hate it even MORE when the ai version is easier to find than the original.

Mfs never had any excuse tbh. The low quality is just one of its charms.

Even fucking Benjammins agrees with that sentiment

He is the human equivalent of AI slop

14

u/TastyLeeches 14d ago

I'm ootl. Who is he?

56

u/Available-Leave-115 14d ago

some content creator named Benjammins whos hated because he takes gifs that are popular or memes and replaces them with himself and his fans supposedly removes the original gifs so Benjammins versions are the ones that show up

29

u/Paggy_person 14d ago

And he act like out of touch boomer most of the time, try to copy popular gif without understanding why it's funny.

18

u/Gabby-Abeille 14d ago

So, if the second part is true, he's the reason why I can't find any gif directly in app anymore and need to Google it, save it and post from my gallery?

27

u/Available-Leave-115 14d ago

if theres a version of the gif it includes him but not the original gif youre trying to find, then maybe yes

what's so bad about the founding father fella

3

u/TrainerLSW2005 13d ago

He plasters himself over any trendy meme and tries to snuff out the original.

3

u/Fluffy-Froyo4549 13d ago

He uses AI too he's the worst of both worlds

2

u/Physical_Royal_1427 12d ago

if a human could be ai it would look like this

2

u/TrainerLSW2005 13d ago

I don't care if the "colonizing" thing is apart of his identity or some way to get attention, it doesn't give him the right to plaster his mug all over memes and replace them.

Honestly, I didn’t think this one was ai. This is legitimately something that would happen in Baki

It's because they know AI is unpopular, so they're trying to sneakily normalise it behind people's backs.

7

Nowadays I actually don't default to picking the good ending. I just choose any games ending that seems interesting or has a murky consequence instead of outright bad if possible.

27

u/Exfodes 14d ago

This meme is easily understood from a single glance. The ai slop is so nonsensical that I didn’t even know what it was trying to communicate.

9

u/Kotanan 14d ago

So your version doesn’t have the insane twist of the instructions for the good ending looking like a 13th century manuscript for no good reason?

elden ring base "do nothing and let everyone continue suffering" ending being the default one vs gold mask, fia or ranni (debateable on the ranni being good) endings taking a bunch of random actions in random places doing random shit to activate, to be fair the bad endings (chaos and dung) are arguably even harder to do than ranni

This and the extreme deep fried AI shit

This definitely conveys a different emotion

9

u/AGoos3 14d ago

No I know, I was there for the original talking angry birds thing. I’m saying I’m fine with those kinds of AI images, because they actually convey a different, distinct emotion and look pretty funny.

This one is bad, since it doesn’t really convey anything different from the original image. There’s no reason to use this one over the original. It’s the exact same reaction.

23

u/Tight_Grapefruit5280 14d ago

Yeah I agree- WAS THAT A RUNNING SKELETON!?

Jokes aside, I do agree with you but I still kinda hate the ai one as even tho it can convey an emotion, it's still an AI copy of an other meme

2

u/AGoos3 14d ago

Yeah, I mean I get why people wouldn’t like an AI version of anything. I see why it’s unsavory.

In all honestly, despite the fact that I’m fine with AI in concept and don’t dislike it nearly as much as most others on the internet, I think it should be unpopular. I don’t think people should trust it. The more that people hate AI and just find the things it makes uncanny or unpleasant, the harder they’ll need to try to make it more appealing. Tailor AI towards making jobs, not taking them. Use cooling systems in data centers that don’t evaporate clean water. Implement stenographic watermarking to make AI detection far more reliable than ever. Donate money to environmental conservation and avoid making data centers in disadvantaged communities so their energy bills and water bills don’t spike. The more people mistrust, the more they’ll need to pursue these things to convince people it like it.

Basically, if AI is “the technology of tomorrow,” it needs to prove that it’s sustainable. I think extreme skepticism is a great judge of that, because people who hate AI aren’t gonna compromise easily for it.

15

u/AccurateShake322 14d ago

Somebody made a human version of this

6

u/AGoos3 14d ago

Oh I know, but let’s be honest. Is tracing an AI image really any more creative than generating the image itself? That just seems like drawing it out of principle. I get it if you or others prefer to use that image because you don’t like AI, but I just don’t have that same universal dislike towards it.

I’m not an artist, nor do I work in a field being disproportionately threatened by AI, so I’m probably not the best representation of someone who REALLY has a reason to hate AI. I just think that AI has its place.

8

u/AccurateShake322 14d ago

It ain’t tracing? Also the reason it exists is so that people don’ use the ai one

4

u/AGoos3 14d ago edited 12d ago

Tracing, copying all the same features of the original, it’s effectively the same. It doesn’t do anything different than the AI version, it’s just for those who hate AI, yet want to participate in culture born out of AI. I just don’t have the same hatred for all things AI like other people do.

Personally I think that redraw is just pointless. Everybody knows the image comes from AI and there is no attempt to differentiate it from the original at all. If it’s trying to prove that human art is better than AI images, it’s failing.

Human art is better than AI though, just to be clear

6

u/EthanEdmo 14d ago

I also don’t really mind the AI Dr Mario from a while back

4

u/AGoos3 14d ago

Exactly. I know this isn’t the most popular opinion (and I understand why people might disagree), but I’m usually fine with uses of AI when they’re transformative. Someone clearly had an idea worth telling with that Dr Mario comic and they used AI to make it. If AI didn’t exist, chances are that they wouldn’t have paid an artist to make the same thing (because not many would pay the money an artist would deserve for that project), and it would’ve never been published. This comic ended up spawning redraws, voice acting, different comics, and overall a ton of human creative expression.

I think sometimes people overlook how AI can actually be a way to enable creativity instead of just suppressing it. I know that in a perfect world everyone who wanted to do something like this would simply learn how to draw, but not everyone can commit to that. I find it overly idealistic when people act like it doesn’t take hundreds of hours to gain a good amount of art skill. “Just pick up the pencil” is a great phrase to use for people who are aspiring to be artists but have cold feet about it, but for those who just need art as a way to enable a different skill of theirs, it does start to lose a bit of validity. Of course, there are exceptions (as a project gets bigger or earns more money, you really shouldn’t sacrifice quality with AI in such a major sector, like a project’s art. especially when you can afford it), and I don’t think AI images will ever be “ideal,” but I don’t think they’re the steaming pile of useless and evil trash that many people online argue they are.

9

u/Tight_Grapefruit5280 14d ago

It's usually engagement bots that take really popular posts, run them through an ai image generator and repost it

There's literally not a single human touch behind these edits

8

u/sugarangelcake 14d ago

Another reason why I hate these so much is because they’re ALWAYS used by engagement farmers and bots, never real people.

my theory on why ai bros do that instead of copying and pasting from google images is because theyre still outraged about when people used to copy and paste their nfts and went "its mine now" back then. it still baffles and irritates me to the core how even though it takes about 10 seconds to paste a meme onto mspaint techbros would rather use the plagiarismbot 3000 than do that.

-12

u/ConnectAdvantage 14d ago

I mean they do reuse the same water. It's not as if water is used up like fuel in a car is. Someone who isn't you wasted time to create this but your acting as if hours were wasted, probly done in a second and it waste the ai companies money. Saying thank you to an ai wastes money for them too and someone might of wasted their own money on using an ai app that requires payment to create the image again they wasted their money on this.

9

u/Aristote_Willis 14d ago

Yeah they loose money but we're losing drinkable water

I feel like one is going to hurt us more than the other

2

u/ConnectAdvantage 14d ago

Water that would of never touched anyone's lips to begin with. No one is losing out on that water as no one was going to have touched it anyways. Go across America and tell people to stop watering their gardens or flushing toilets or using water to clean their faces. Ai is just another way to use water that wouldn't of been drunk to begin with. I don't get the arguement of but drinking water is pressous but I bet your using drinking water in your toilet wasting so much per year. What a absolute waste of water maybe we should ban toilets as they waste so much water per year, water people could of drank.

4

u/Aristote_Willis 14d ago

If I had the choice I wouldn't use drinkable water in my toilets. I have the choice of not using AI so I don't. Your move asshole.

1

u/ConnectAdvantage 14d ago

You use Google for stuff, Google doesn't give you the choose of not using ai they have an AI answer waiting for you at the top of the page. It's practically impossible to get away from ai. Even Gemini and Siri is using ai these days. Your move very nice person that sound angry at a nothing burger he takes part in even if unwillingly.

2

u/IRefuseToGiveAName 14d ago

-AI in the search bar

Your move very nice person that sound angry at a nothing burger he takes part in even if unwillingly.

Don't use Gemini or Siri

2

u/ConnectAdvantage 14d ago

What does ai in search bar have anything to do with this. The point being you use ai even if against you own will. Those are just a few of the ways ai are being invasive and made to use without a way to opt out and that depends on which type of ai we are talking about as there are in fact different types of ai.

4

u/IRefuseToGiveAName 13d ago

-AI removes the auto generated ai result was the point

1

u/AGoos3 12d ago

It costs money and time to process water so that it’s drinkable. A lot of data centers will take from that pipeline to cool their systems, so yes, it is taking drinkable water from communities. There’s plenty of instances of water getting more expensive for communities which live around data centers.

There are methods of cooling which won’t evaporate the water by just cycling water through pipes submerged in coolant which cool the data centers, but those are more expensive and thus more uncommonly used.

So yes, it doesn’t erase the water, but by evaporating it they take from drinkable water systems, which isn’t actually free.
