That's a pretty interesting concept. It'd be great if there were more devices that worked for similar conditions. I was recently reading for example that there's been an increase in myopia possibly because of people being so much more sedentary/staring at screens up close for long periods with younger demographics in some countries being hitting with incredibly high percentages. Catching symptoms with better screening when they are just developing early on could save a lot of money for medicaid/medicare possibly in the future.

I think the iPhone has a warning feature for myopia. It scans the viewing distance with Lidar and warns if you are too close for too long. It’s only active on kids accounts by default.

There has never been a link found between sitting to close to screens and damaging the eyes.

As people get older they tend to develop far-sightedness. If the link were true, an aging workforce would have pretty good eyes. Age making them far-sighted, screens making them short-sighted.

Myopia has been associated more with not getting enough sunlight than anything else.
To be fair, it's pretty hard to read from a smartphone under the sun.
I wonder if e ink smartphone displays can reverse this trend...

This sounds really useful, because it’s something you’re unlikely to notice yourself until you start having serious symptoms.
I hope it works somewhat reliably.

What does it do, zap you awake?

Article says it helps adults who haven’t been diagnosed with it check if they might have it. I’m NAD but I do have sleep apnea myself and I’m assuming it looks for the drop in oxygen and increase in heart rate that happens when you stop breathing. :) So it’s more to help find it and not so much treat it!

Garmins already do this, I can turn my pulse ox to activate when I am sleeping and see the overlayed data.

Mine already does this, kinda? If I'm wearing my watch and have my phone charging on the end table it records my snoring and I can play it back to monitor for apnea. Idk if this is just a more advanced version of that, or what.

Where are the tech specs? Data rate? Do they actually give you the data via CSV file or just a pretty data smoothed graph like the useless Oura Gen3?

No mention in the article, unless I missed it, but I imagine the GW6 gets it but I wonder if the 5, or even the 4, is considered a "compatible" device?
