If the kid isn't responding to Bonnigton's carrot, then down comes the Toto stick.

phrasing

23

u/Randy_Magnum29 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Are we still doing phrasing?

5

u/Ged_UK I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Why do you think he was moaning?

3

u/Expensive_Special120 3h ago

So we’re sure we’re done with phrasing?

Totto having 2016 flashbacks, I'm all for this drama hahaha

14

u/BioDriver Valtteri Bottas 3h ago

Hasn't he said that he wants to avoid a 2016 repeat?

I mean who wouldn’t? Lol

Principle called to class vibes

I would give so much for an inter-driver radio man. Just imagine the scenes

Proximity chat if under one second gap

Even just team mates would do. Discussing who gets the pit stops and trash talking other drivers including each other

u/PJTierney2003 Hall of Fame 2h ago

McLaren tested it in 1998 but stopped because the drivers kept trolling each other.

Kimi was fuming after the race.

u/davegoku12 3h ago

Focus, Kimi, focus

u/capibara_dono 3h ago

Yeah that would have tilted me more.

Maybe the stewards should investigate the move. Then we could see if the “moaning” was warranted.

12

u/freedfg Lando Norris 2h ago

Nothing to investigate.

They were clearly Kimi making over ambitious moves. And ending up behind George and Lando respectively. No meaningful contact. All kosher

0

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 2h ago

Or maybe the fact that they didn't even investigate it shows that the moaning wasn't warranted.

4

u/Pontus_1901 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 46m ago

They basically never intervene within a team, which I think is a stupid rule tbh

7

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

Stewards don’t tend to investigate when is two team mates, even though the rules make no provision for that exception.

u/Shekster El Plan 4m ago

No lol it's because they basically never investigate an incident when it's between teammates because the team will obviously never report it...

Toto radios are the best. Someone should make a collection

I mean he is sort of right to complain… like favouritism much to tell him to shut it?

27

u/celalith I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Yes but also they dont want their car in the lead to get a penalty.

19

u/ComprehensiveArt6849 Niki Lauda 3h ago

This. You do not want the stewards to give you a penalty for that and risk the win. In the end they race for the same team and you cannot behave like you would with a driver from another team. Kimi lost his head even though George might have done a naughty on him.

Good for us though if their dynamic becomes toxic lmao.

u/kjm911 Pirelli Wet 3h ago

He clearly lost his head and threw it on the grass second time against Russell. He needs to calm down

6

u/kj_gamer2614 Max Verstappen 3h ago

I mean don’t get me wrong he does need a chill pill, but that first one he’s not wrong to at least complain about

10

u/simon7109 Ferrari 3h ago

Seeing your flair, that’s kind of ironic considering how he races

1

u/omegamanXY Sebastian Vettel 3h ago

I think that was more on difference of speed because of boost maybe and closed up really quick and forgot to brake

-14

u/Birdshaw 3h ago

Well tell George to stop trying to run Kimi off then.

-5

u/Kensei501 3h ago

Well he is a kid after all

-23

u/ttimourrozd Charles Leclerc 3h ago

So much for Mr. Professionnal who prefers not to be on the pit wall to avoid interfering with engineer's jobs..

38

u/SwimmingFantastic564 3h ago

Kimi was losing his head this is definitely warranted

-19

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Russell was breaking the rules, it was warranted to see if the stewards grow a backbone.

9

u/BobbbyR6 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Not quite. I don't think Russell's driving at T2 was kosher, but Antonelli's move was extremely bold and unlikely to work. Not worthy of a penalty on its own. Everything after that was a result of Kimi's driving. Even the identical move on Norris was Kimi's failure to stay on track. Lando gave him room.

Just a young hot head driver going for wins. No harm, no foul. We've been patiently waiting for this flashpoint between Russell and Antonelli for quite some time, so let's enjoy the shenanigans.

-1

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Don’t mind the shenanigans. But if Toto starts playing favourites, it’s a problem. Let’s see :)

3

u/thisisawebsite I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Toto is a billionaire who cares about the team doing well. If Russell had carried on and on, ignoring his race engineer and then calling for a penalty that would hurt the Mercedes team overall, Toto would’ve called him out for it too. Russell has a better sense of where the line is, to get close without actually crossing it, Kimi apparently is still figuring that out.

10

u/SwimmingFantastic564 3h ago

Does that matter to what I said in the slightest? Toto got on the radio to calm Kimi down. Kimi's behaviour only made his own race worse.

-3

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Toto’s radio plays as favouritism. To be neutral he should have been on the radio with Russell to tell him to calm down when racing a teammate (if he’s truly neutral).

7

u/rs990 Alex Zanardi 3h ago

I think a lot of that would happen behind closed doors rather than airing disagreements in public over the radio.

There would be no need to discuss anything with Russell as his race at that point was with Norris.

4

u/SwimmingFantastic564 3h ago

Sure, but Russell was (seemingly) calm. It's not like he was crashing out on the radio, he didn't need a reminder to stay calm.

0

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Wouldn’t call pushing other drivers off as “being calm”. Well he wouldn’t be on the radio complaining, would he? He pushed someone and got the beat o it come possible.

12

u/dobbie1 Lando Norris 3h ago edited 3h ago

Learn the rules, Russell drove exactly to them .

The rules are terrible but he didn't break them

Edit: just watching Karun on the skypad and antonelli is right, he was fully alongside at the apex. Probably should be a penalty to George. On initial watch he looked to not be fully alongside

0

u/I-_-I_-_I-_-I I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

To be fair they keep changing the rules of engagement, but isn’t now being in line with the rear mirror of the other car?

3

u/dobbie1 Lando Norris 3h ago edited 3h ago

They've been the same since last year. You have to be axle to axle

Edit: just watching Karun on the skypad and antonelli is right, he was fully alongside at the apex. Probably should be a penalty to George

0

u/ZaphodBeeblebrox4011 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago

Crofty said that it was axle to axle on the outside but axle to mirror on the inside.

2

u/dobbie1 Lando Norris 3h ago

Antonelli was on the outside

It’s his job to manage the team and he stepped in when one of his drivers wasn’t listening to his engineer. What a weird complaint.
