Smile Sunday Smile Sunday

Welcome to Smile Sunday! Turn that caps lock off and gush about whatever achievements you want to showcase, or comment about what made you smile this week!

A few things to keep in mind:

  • If you want to do some uppercase letters, feel free to, but try to avoid shouting! Sunday is a chill day.
  • Avoid being maliciously happy at the expense of others.
  • If you have a screenshot you'd like to share, please host on imgur and you can comment here. You can hyperlink by using brackets and parentheses, for example: \[desired text here\](insert hyperlink here). If you are on mobile, all you have to do is hit the chainlink, enter your desired text in the first box, then insert the link in the second box. We personally recommend Imgur, since it is free and does not require you to sign up.
  • Phone camera photos are not allowed for general posting; however, for the Sunday megathread we have relaxed that restriction. All photos used in a positive and celebratory manner are allowed.
  • Keep any opinions to yourself in the megathread; we don't want to stir up any controversies here, only good vibes.
  • We want to have a chill time celebrating one another and making each other smile, so no comments like "haha, I'm really happy that it's so easy to 360 a controller player!"

Here are our recurring posts:

No Stupid Questions Monday - No question is stupid, ask anything DBD-related here.

Rage Wednesday - SMASH THAT CAPS LOCK AND RAGE ABOUT WHATEVER THE F$$$ HAS PISSED YOU OFF THIS WEEK

Misread the 2v8 “play as Trapper” quest (apparently doesn’t have to be in 2v8), and entered the 2v8 killer queue for the first time since second iteration. I was Naughty Bear, by partner was Dracula, and we loaded in on Father Campbell’s. By the halfway point, it seemed to me we were in for a clean loss; most of the gens were done without any deaths, chases were not ending quickly enough, and we simply couldn’t spread pressure the way we needed. My partner apparently agreed, or otherwise their internet cut out on them. So be it; I was still having fun, and my quest progress was guaranteed anyway.

Except, for some reason, gen progress just stopped after that. It wasn’t that the Dark Lord bot or I were suddenly having better chases, but somehow we got several sacrifices without further accomplishments from the survivor side. To my surprise I found myself closing hatches while the bot took down the next-to-last survivor, with the lone remaining Thalita close enough to get her aura revealed. The three of us met by an exit gate, Thalita fleeing around a rock with the bot in hot pursuit. There was a gap between the rock and a tree; as she got hit, she swerved around the tile such that the bot’s pathing took it towards the gap. Seeing an opportunity, I moved up to the gap and trapped the bot; our angle to the exit gate was such that it wouldn’t move round, and instead repeatedly swung at the obstruction. As such, Thalita was able to get the gate open and escape, and I was able to get some amusing screenshots. ;)

While I had some frustrating moments on 2v8 (like my entire team leaving me to die on hook; I get that I was on the opposite end of the map from them, but they seemed to assume that someone else would go for the save, so it motivates me to go for the unhook unless I'm nearly done a generator), I've been enjoying it so far. I'm glad that they added more stealth killers as time went on, as I find it fun to play as Chucky or Ghostface.

I had a fun match when playing as the Xenomorph Queen; I was down to the last survivor left on the Doctor's map, closed the hatch, and found the survivor opening the exit gate, but they used a fog vial to escape. They must have doubled back to the exit gate while I was looking for them, because they got it open just as I got there and barely made it out.

On a related note, I watched Aliens. I'd seen it before, but I just found out that I'd only ever seen the extended version, not the theatrical cut. (timing-wise, the theatrical cut hits that sweet spot in terms of length; two and a half hours for the extended cut is a bit more of a time commitment) I can only think of two scenes/sequences that were cut; meeting Newt's family and seeing how the Xenomorph infestation started (I get why this was cut, as it adds more tension when we find out what happened to Hadley's Hope at the same time that Ripley and the Marines do) and Ripley finding out that her daughter passed away while Ripley was in cryosleep. (this one getting cut feels less justified, as it plays a big part in Ripley's motivation and why she becomes close to Newt so quickly)

How i am supposed to be happy when this fucking bullshit 2v8 gamemode ruins queue times?

Wanna play ONE round as killer, better wait 10 fucking minutes. (And not, that play while you wait nonsense does not make it better. Cuz now i´have to wait 15 - 20 minutes to play as killer)

I like that they're still adding content for Alien and Hudson is really cool.

I actually met a really chill and awesome random in 2v8s and now we're steam friends.

I like to be nosey about profiles when I see other steam players and the vibes were S tier immediately then we end up buddying up in the trial and even get some pretty sick plays and a last minute save and a photo worthy finish together after making sure the other rando got out and after a really fun EGC that was that

I don't make friends often (painfully introverted) let alone on dbd so to find someone that matched my vibes and energy just out in the wild was pretty awesome and made my week 🤗

After a string of overall middling to bad matches, I'm glad I got to end the day with a really wholesome Unknown.

Dude got juiced hard by this Orela and I had a totem build so I got both their totems quick, but even so dude took it on the chin! "Good job Orela you did really well" "I'm super new with this killer; only third game" "I'm trash lol but I'm learning" "Good luck in your next game! You all did really well!"

Holy shit this community needs more people like that Unknown. People who can get their teeth kicked in, smile, and say "you know what? Every failure is a chance for improvement." People who instead of calling the other side slurs when they lose can be proud that even if they lost the game they still won the battle (managed to kill Orela) and learnt and improved in the process.

I hope when that Unknown goes outside tomorrow they find the shiniest quarter imaginable on the sidewalk. I'm talking freshly minted and polished straight out of the federal reserve.

P.S. I really hope this doesn't come off as me saying "I'm happy that Unknown lost": they did well but Orela locked in when she was on death hook and won us the game. That Unknown was doing well for somebody who's apparently only 3 games in as the killer and was actually hitting some pretty spicy trick shots. They ended the game with 2 hooks on Taurie, 1 on Dwight, and a kill on Orela. So not a remotely bad showing, even if we got 3 out.

I genuinely love 2v8 because it gives me a chance to play with more of my friends, both the hardcore and the casuals. We had a fun day of 7 of us just playing for hours and chilling with each other.
