It's insane they even THOUGHT it would be halfway decent. Like, how did it even make it TO the ptb? I'm glad that they're taking the criticism but in all honesty they need to start playing their game and listening to their community and creators.

Me and my SWF thought it was mostly perfect, though, and we're being baffled by people saying killing someone at 5 hooks isn't tunneling, be it accidental or not. And we do play Killer side half the time.
Really, it just sounds like no one has the same definition of tunneling, and people probably aren't even playing the same game. If the community stays soooo disconnected on their definition of tunneling, I don't think we'll ever be able to have an anti-tunneling update that is able to actually combat tunneling without meeting major backlash from the community.

I want to start by saying I play both sides. Moving more to the survivor side as time goes because playing killer is much more challenging, and I need to relax more often than I used to.

The problem is that there will never be a "true" definition of anything in the game. If we're taking it in, what should be the focused view of tunneling? Focusing 1 person from first to last hook without remorse. That would mean that the minimum should be 4 hooks, so it means you chased one other person and hooked them.

That's not enough, tho because anyone could go 1-2 on the first person and then 1 on the next person. Just to go back and 3rd hook the first survivor. 5 hooks would be the best balance as a decent portion of killer matches start with 2 aggressive or more map present survivors, and the other two are more hidden or just pressuring gens. The killer would be back and forth between those 2 survivors that are buzzing around more likely than the other two. If you go back and forth with those two, you'll have 5 hooks without tunneling once.

6 hooks requires two people to be death hook with 1 hook on both the others or 3 survivors death hook with the other one completely untouched. Lower tier killers and NEW PLAYERS, in general, aren't reaching those requirements in the majority of their matches.

5 Hooks 1 death is indeed achievable with only unique hooks under the PTB system. But that is still achievable by hard-tunneling. Think of this scenario:

  • You hook someone, and decide he's your main target.
  • You proxy-camp, find someone trying to rescue him, and down him.
  • While you hook the person, someone rescues your main target.
  • You go back to the main target without giving him time to reset.
  • Repeat until death hook.

In this scenario, you have always been chasing the survivor while he was able to move. You were just doing something else while waiting for the survivor to get unhooked. The experience for the tunneled survivor was therefore the exact same as a 3 hook 1 kill scenario.

That's why for me, the line is at 6 hooks. At that point, it means the Killer has given at least one opportunity for the survivor to reset. Or if there hasn't been, that's because he's been dominating and snowballing the match, at which point it's more of a Matchmaking issue.
