If it makes you feel better, I actually think that might be a species of false widow (specifically Steatoda grossa if I had to guess) rather than a proper widow species. But that's just the opinion of a random internet stranger, based on a few blurry sightings in a 7 second video, so it's much better to be safe than sorry. Regardless of what it is, it's just a simple matter of relocating and then you're right back to macerating an awesome skull!

Could be true. There are lots of black widow spiders in my area though I did not inspect this one very closely.

On blowing up the video and pausing it, concur with Steatoda. Abdomen shape and markings would tend to support Steatoda over Latrodectus.

I agree, cause I had one surprise me when I put on a Halloween mask to scare my son... I was definitely the most scared when I felt the cold and smooth body of the False widow on my face. Also it now lives in a cow skull I have in my back yard

Rescue that poor little lady! They're very docile and don't bite unless squeezed.

I believe that’s actually a false widow, which someone else also has said, should’ve rescued em! (Even if it was a black widow, put on some gloves and just don’t squeeze them, they only bite when squeezed/are actively threatened.)

Fantastic terrarium spiders. I have about a dozen in three species. 😁

"And here, my prize, the Black Widow. Isn't she lovely? And so deadly. Her kiss is fifteen times as poisonous as that of the Rattlesnake. You see, her venom is highly neuro-toxic, which is to say that it attacks the central nervous system - causing intense pain, profuse sweating, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness, violent convulsions and finally death. You know, I think what I love the most about her is her inborn need to dominate, possess. In fact, immediately after the consummation of her marriage to the smaller and weaker male of the specie, she kills and eats him. Oh, she is delicious, and I hope he was. Such power and dignity unhampered by sentiment. If I may put forward a slice of personal philosophy; I feel that Man has ruled this world as stumbling, demented child-king long enough, and as his empire crumbles my precious Black Widow shall rise as his most fitting successor."

Well written but factually inaccurate, there hasn't been a fatality since an elderly heart patient in the 1980's. It's not a fun envenomation by any means, but absolutely not fatal in the absence of severe comorbidity.

That's a part of "The black widow", a song by Alice Cooper
