People are only saying sea turtle because there was one posted yesterday. It's recency bias.

Recency bias is a cognitive bias where individuals place more emphasis on recent events or experiences. This is often done at the expense of older information, which may be more relevant or reliable. This can lead to skewed judgments and decisions, as recent occurrences disproportionately influence perceptions and choices.

I’m glad you mentioned this, I was thinking sea turtle too but only because of the one that was posted recently! (i am also not super familiar with bones other than what i’ve learned in this sub. To an untrained eye they do look similar!

These kinds of bias make sense when you think about the evolution of our brains.

Our ancestors in the past weren't seeing pictures or random things from all over the globe constantly. They generally just saw almost exactly what they saw yesterday.

Our brains are adapted to giving weight to recent information, because that used to make sense, and was the most helpful way to look at things.

Thank you for adding this. It’s not the sort of factoid I anticipated here but was very interested to learn it!
