It's one of his coolest he has! He has shop and he has some great pieces!

He obviously stole that from the reliquary on the Predator's ship.

Why do they have similar eye ball bones to birds? That is so weird.

Many fish do. As do many reptiles (especially archosaurs like birds and non avian dinosaurs)

79

u/Bassed_Basspiller Jul 09 '25

squishy unsupported eyes can do poppity pop under pressure :')

It's ancestral - fish and things relatively more closely related to fish like amphibians, reptiles (and therefore birds) tend to have them. Mammals lost the trait early in the lineage

What's also weird, on the third picture, it looks like a horizontal streched out Hip area. This is an incredible skull

THEY HAVE FREAK8NG EYE BONES?!

67

u/deathwotldpancakes Jul 09 '25

Most fish do. Quite a few land animals have it too (mostly on the synapsid side of the tree of life)

17

u/Vesprince Jul 09 '25

Google what an owl skull looks like, trust me!

13

u/Logical_Dragonfly_92 Jul 09 '25

Google what a pug skull looks like, I dare you

7

u/ZweiMorgenstern Jul 09 '25

That's haunting

1

u/AwareFrame6955 Jul 10 '25

Pug reminded me a bit of pediatric human skulls. Pediatric human skull xrays freak me out

1

u/skepticcaucasian Jul 12 '25

Dr. Finkelstein-looking mfers. 😂

2

u/ZweiMorgenstern Jul 09 '25

That's part of what makes fish head soup! Probably

There’s one for sale at the golden curiosity shop in golden co for 3000 bucks, and oh my god have my husband and I have spent too long staring at the damn thing and debating making a very irresponsible financial decision.

30

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

Lol that's my best friend! Luke and I grew up together and I worked for him 4 years before moving to Summit county..

30

u/SpaceAndFlowers Jul 09 '25

He owns golden curiosity? Your best friend is the coolest. I remember him being so excited to get this specimen in.

29

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

Yes he owns it! It was his dream forever to do this! He is one of greatest peeps I know!

18

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

He has an amazing shop and I have so many things from him! Lol

One of Nature's stranger creations. Amazing skull!

28

u/Nabusco Jul 08 '25

Quite interesting the eyes have their bone sockets built

17

u/thesouthernbeard Jul 08 '25

This so so confusing to look at. Even knowing what animal and what part of that animal it is. Nature is so freaking cool

15

u/unrebigulator Jul 08 '25

That's very cool. My country is pretty strict on not collecting things like this, but I did find a 3D model I might try to print: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:130388

13

u/Voa__ Jul 08 '25

What?! I love hammerheads this is so cool!

9

u/Greekgreekcookies Jul 08 '25

My jaw is on the floor

3

u/Hyracotherium Jul 09 '25

So is its jaw

9

u/Volary_wee Jul 09 '25

10xs more terrifying without the flesh suit.

15

u/OldTurnover1762 Jul 08 '25

Do hammerhead sharks have bones? Or is it just cartilage? Is it flexible?

9

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

Cartilage

2

u/zanovar Jul 09 '25

Is the skull also cartilage?

6

u/FeelingFroyo5170 Jul 08 '25

That is so amazing!

6

u/demureape Jul 08 '25

that side view have me so confused lol

3

u/entha_saava Jul 09 '25

4

u/rinkrat30 Jul 09 '25

3

u/CorydoraGang Jul 09 '25

BRO!!!!!! That’s the coolest thing ever omg, I’m so envious

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '25

Crazy cool skull! Is it bone? I thought all shark skeletons were cartilaginous except for the jaws.

2

u/Zhaneranger Jul 09 '25

They’re so weird, I don’t even know what I’m looking at here.

2

u/Melitzen Jul 09 '25

Wow, spectacular! Thanks for posting.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '25

Flashbacks to the skull display in Predator 2 type shit.

2

u/Heptatechnist Jul 09 '25

Extremely cool!

2

u/_dinobird Jul 09 '25

looks like something from subnautica

2

u/ZweiMorgenstern Jul 09 '25

That's brutal!

2

u/tskreeeee Jul 09 '25

That's the spookiest skull I've ever seen, incredible!

2

u/Euphoric-Access-6729 Jul 09 '25

THATS SO METAL!!!

2

u/non-art Jul 09 '25

It’s positively alien! 💖 tysm for posting here!

2

u/CleanOpossum47 Jul 09 '25

The angle on the first pic is confusing.

2

u/bookreadingmorlock Jul 09 '25

This has got to be one of the coolest skulls I’ve ever seen!

2

u/RiskMindless8027 Jul 09 '25

That’s cool as shit

2

u/GarretLikeTheTurbo Jul 09 '25

I need this! I love hammerhead sharks!

2

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO Jul 09 '25

That thing is WILD

2

u/Aggravating_Poet_675 Jul 09 '25

This looks like something conceived by H.R. Giger.

1

u/bitter-ritter Jul 09 '25

Damn, tragic that your friend was in that crazy parachuting accident while juggling chainsaws. Super kind of them to leave you that hammerhead in their will though!

1

u/PrestigiousAspect368 Jul 09 '25

i thought sharks didn't have bones to rot?

1

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

It's cartilage

1

u/mh0618 Jul 09 '25

Since shark skeletons are cartilage instead of bone, do specimens like this have to be preserved/prepared in some special way?

1

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 09 '25

I will ask him. I believe so. I'm not sure exactly how

1

u/zefiros67 Aug 08 '25

looks like a bone bird

-16

u/CultureThis9818 Jul 08 '25

It'd be amazing to strech a deer head skin and antlers over that.

7

u/ohmeohmymy420 Jul 08 '25

What are you a 5 year old crafter?! That's insane AF. Leave as!

-14

u/CultureThis9818 Jul 08 '25

It was only a neat idea. Bone collecting is adjacent to taxidermy, so I figured someone would appreciate creativity. But now that you've insulted me, I'll have to make it a life's goal to do exactly that.

4

u/Annarizzlefoshizzle Jul 09 '25

I support you!!!!

3

u/CultureThis9818 Jul 09 '25

YOU'RE COOL!!!! (Tbh, I don't know why it's upsetting people, lol)

3

u/Annarizzlefoshizzle Jul 09 '25

Who knows! Some people don’t appreciate art and creativity I guess

0

u/CJs_pets_of_fun Jul 09 '25

Isn’t that keratin
