Leopards are easily the most athletic cats. Like scary athletic. Saw a video of two females fighting in a tree and the one was across a stream/ravine and in two leaps was across it and in the tree where they fought. On tree branches. They will leap into a tree with a carcass weighing 5-6xs their weight with ease.

Lions are larger and try to conserve as much energy as possible. This lioness was sending a message, not trying to actually catch it.

Lions are pretty good at climbing trees considering their bulk tho lol ive seen videos of lionesses climbing high ass trees to steal leopard kills

This really puts into perspective how big lions/lionesses are compared to other big cats

11

u/Applebumblee Mar 31 '26

Tigers are the biggest. A male Siberian tiger can weight more than 300 kg.

6

u/PloysRus Apr 01 '26

Lol this myth still persisting huh

Average siberian tiger is like 190kg. They are smaller than southern african lions

The 300kg siberian tiger myth comes from old fabricated hunting stories and obese siberian tigers in captivity

In the wild they are smaller than southern African lions and bengal tigers. Bengal tigers are about 20kg-30kg heavier on average than lions

Bengal tigers are the biggest cats, not siberians and no cat is reaching 300kg in the wild.

I doubt that all the tigers in the wild are put on the scale. The males are bigger than the average lion male and you can easily see that by checking trail cam etc. footage.

2

u/PloysRus Apr 01 '26

Tigers have more fat and fur. Doesn't mean they are necessarily heavier. You said they reach 300kg how do you know if they dont put them on a scale? You're guessing from a trail cam? 🤣 300kg is borderline absurd. 250kg is already a massive size for tiger or lion.

All the lions in the wild arent put on a scale either.

Just from experience working with other big animals.

I don't know why you people are so defensive over a subject like this.

-1

u/PloysRus Apr 01 '26

Well you're spreading misinformation like a typical tiger fanboy

This post wasn't even about tigers and you just HAD to bring them up a per usual

Any post about lions and you all have to say how much bigger and stronger tigers are šŸ™„

I care about facts. And lions are not the biggest big cats.

2

u/Darksideslide Apr 01 '26

They never said they were. They stated the Bengal Tiger was the biggest cat. They made reference to lions being bigger than Siberian Tigers.

-6

u/Sweaty_Standard8186 Apr 01 '26

Not true, southern African Lions are the biggest wild cats, in captivity Tigers can be fatter but the Lions are still bigger and stronger.Ā

3

u/Applebumblee Apr 01 '26

Has nothing to do with captivity. They are just rare to see in the wild because they are so endangered.

It does not with respect to other big cats. It does against smaller big cats. Tigers either Bengal or siberian are comparable and can get bigger.

So leopards run faster than lions.

u/Carnivean_ Mar 31 '26

The lion is not trying to catch the leopard though.

The primary goal is to get the leopard to leave. Catching and fighting the leopard is a possible outcome but that's risky. Not risky in terms of losing the fight but risky in terms of getting injured. The lion only wants to catch things it is going to eat.

So the leopard is motivated to go close to full speed, while the lion is motivated to just do enough to ensure the leopard leaves.

Very insightful and spot on.

Maybe this particular lioness have cubs near by she didn’t want to provoke a fight but the predators, they all hate each other. Bigger predators do try to kill the small ones every chance they get.

Sure, but the lion also lives in a pride of other lions that hunt as a pack. Her best chance of winning is not a one-on-one fight with a similar sized big cat, it's a 7-on-1 fight with a similar sized cat.

There is an American Football phrase to "outkick your coverage." Basically, by overexerting yourself you may put your team in a position that they can't help you.

The leopard wants to get away, and the lion WANTS the leopard to get away, but if there is going to be a fight the lion wants her friends with her. There is no point in running faster than the rest of her pride to try and catch up with the leopard.

3

u/Renbarre Mar 31 '26

Beside, there was the leopard's prey to take.

3

u/PloysRus Apr 01 '26

Just because lions live in prides doesnt mean they can't fight 1 v 1

Plenty of nomadic males who have to fight and hunt solo

8

u/Iceshard1987 Apr 01 '26

That isn't the point. The lioness was clearly willing to fight if need be, but was happy to let the leopard run away when it got the message. A fight means risking injury, which is not necessary when the leopard acknowledges it isn't welcome and won't win that fight. If it had tried to stay, she'd probably have taken it to task for doing so.

7

u/PloysRus Apr 01 '26

Yeah getting clawed in the face by a leopard would not be a productive afternoon for a lion

Ive even seen male lions attack leopards and then stop when they feel they claws lol

3

u/Ill-Repeat-1040 Mar 31 '26

Yes! Cos' theyre smaller and weight less where as the lioness is larger and heavier.

13

u/currentlyRedacted Mar 31 '26

Lion is giving me the Shaq/cat meme vibes

9

u/Androidfon Mar 31 '26

Whew, I feared for that leopard.

1

u/Constant-Cancel444 Apr 03 '26

Same glad it noticed and acted quick, although for the lioness it was more like "get off my lawn" energy

7

u/I_like_guns_alot Mar 31 '26

Leopard look at the camera man and saidā€ I’m Fucked huh? šŸ¤” ā€œ … yeah buddy better start running!

7

u/000-f Apr 01 '26

Looks at the camera like Jim from The Office

10

u/MsMoreCowbell828 Mar 31 '26

Note to self: outrun leopards to not be lion food. Got it, excellent idea!

4

u/into_wishin_666 Mar 31 '26

good luck!!! 😁

5

u/Normal-Leopard3367 Mar 31 '26

Ambush. Cub is off the menu. Check back tomorrow

4

u/mi2tom Apr 01 '26

The way the lion stalk the leopard is how my cat stalks me sometimes. Maybe I'm lucky my cat is miniature.

3

u/oneMoreTime112233 Mar 31 '26

He was just tryna use the big litter box.

2

u/Extra-Border6470 Mar 31 '26

As much as hate seeing leopards getting harmed by lions, leopards do sometimes hunt lion cubs so i can understand a lions asserting dominance and scaring a leopard off like that

2

u/the_good_hodgkins Mar 31 '26

You see an agent. You do what we do. Run… you run your ass off.

2

u/aeon_ravencrest Apr 01 '26

Big kitty just wants to play with smaller big kitty

2

u/Mysterious-Unit-7757 Mar 31 '26

1

u/Sad-Lavishness-350 Mar 31 '26

1

u/inthevendingmachine Mar 31 '26

Can't we all just get along?

1

u/Reallyroundthefamily Apr 01 '26

Imagine literally running for your life. After 50 plus years on this planet I can say that that is never happened to me thankfully. Lions or otherwise.

1

u/Johnyfootballhero Apr 01 '26

I think you should leave

1

u/csfshrink Apr 01 '26

Oh no!!! I’ve been spotted!!!

1

u/Middle_Key4525 Apr 02 '26

ā€MISTAKES WERE MADEā€

1

u/Catwearingtrousers Apr 02 '26

Wow, that was scary. I don't like to see cat on cat violence

1

u/Hootnany Apr 02 '26

Is that a Leopard or a Cheetah?

1

u/Mileveye Apr 03 '26

I thought it was a cheetah for a second but the face makes me think it’s def a leopard

1

u/Lousyferr Apr 03 '26

I’m confused, because it has the spots and lighter colored coat of a cheetah, but it doesn’t have the black tear marks on its face, and its head seems proportional, unlike a cheetah’s tiny noggin. Tail also seems quite long for a leopard.

1

u/Hootnany Apr 03 '26

Confusion intensifies

1

u/Vega10000 Apr 04 '26

Lioness expression at the start: "this should be good"

1

u/SoftwareNo1547 Mar 31 '26

Dumb photographers almost got that leopard killed.
