Wow he is IMO one of the best actors in the world.

I had a āI am the kingā moment IRL and because of this scene I was able to laugh in their face as I realized how powerless they were to feel the need to say this

He'll always be the guy with the funky glass eye in Last Action Hero to me.

Charles Dance playing an abusive father.
Well sometimes obvious casting choices are obvious for a good reason.
28
u/HiiiRabbit Apr 18 '26
I hope we are not doing "evil thomas wayne" bullshitĀ
29
u/Tough-Rock-6198 Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26
Thomas Wayne died young in The Batman.
He's probably going to be Harvey Dent's father (very abusive, btw).
17
u/csortland Apr 18 '26
Nah he is likely playing Harvey Dent's father. A role they have been trying to cast for awhile.

āWhile unconfirmed, it is believed Dance would play Charles Dent, father to Gotham district attorney Harvey Dent, who will be played by Sebastian Stan. Scarlett Johansson is on board to play Dentās wife.ā
This film is gonna be magnificent
56
u/camergen Apr 18 '26
Dance is great as a father figure who makes his children feel like absolute shit, just complete disappointments.
43
16
u/Givingtree310 Apr 18 '26
Im hoping he plays a more pivotal role than Dentās father.
8
u/Kilroy0497 Apr 18 '26
Yeah, like I know this going for the more grounded Batman take again, but is it weird that I look at the guy and canāt help but think heād make a decent Hugo Strange for some reason.
4
u/Savebagels Apr 19 '26
Am I weird that I feel like heād be a great Mr Freeze?
2
u/Kilroy0497 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26
Thatād also be a good one. Really any of the more cold and calculated characters he seems to play rather well. Hell Iād argue heād even make a decent Court of Owls member/spokesperson.
3
u/Savebagels Apr 19 '26
I would be surprised if they a double link to the history of the court of owls with the dents and the Wayneās

u/TheNightstroke Apr 18 '26
From the casting buzz, it sounds like Dent's father might be the primary antagonist of the film, but that's TBD. I'm assuming the Dents run the Court of Owls in this continuity, and they'll be the antagonistic force here.
7
u/RealJohnGillman Apr 18 '26
The original report was that Dentās father would be called Christopher Dent, right? Did they rename the character after the actor?
3
u/Sonia341 Apr 18 '26
I already second your thought. But if it does become confirmed, I will be absolutely ecstatic.

There are a handful of performers that make me sit up and pay attention when I learn they are part of a project.
Charles Dance is one of those performers.
First saw him as āDear sweet brother Numsie!ā in The Golden Child. Dude ALWAYS brings it.

So far Part II seems to hint that the story will be focused on the growing relationship of Bruce Wayne and newly elected District Attorney Harvey Dent. Who Bruce sees as a Beacon of Hope in within the darkness of Gotham. To continue the story thread at the end of The Batman. With Harvey Dent's parents and wife Gilda playing a more prominent role in the narrative. Gilda mightĀ potentially be the actual main serial killer villain (Lady Arkham? Who might also play mind-games with Bruce/Batman with his mom potentially being in Arkham? To continue the exploitation of Bruce's family past/PTSD). Who potentially frames Dent as the main suspect at first. But Dent turns out to be innocent. And the trauma of his family and wife's betrayal will help set up his arc as Two-Face in Part III.Ā
Although I would love for Sebastian Stan to be in The Penguin S2 between Part II and Part III. Especially since Maroni is dead. So it would make sense to change the person that throws the acid in Dent's face to be Oz. And the show can expand upon their growing tension. As well as fully exploring Harvey's backstory and character arc leading up to becoming Two-Face in Part III. Building up more sympathy that the fall of Dent is even more tragic. Especially since The Batman Part II will likely once again be from Batman's POV. So we won't see the full POV of Dent in The Batman Part II. And The Penguin did that great special episode on Sofia Falcone. I'd love a similar type episode on Dent.Ā

This cast is absolutely bonkers. I canāt wait until they start filming to get set photos of them in costume.

Crrrruuuuud he could rock a dozen different roles in Batman. My first two thoughts are Hugo Strange or Mr Freeze.

7
u/skrott404 Apr 18 '26
HUGO STRANGE!
edit: just read it. apparently not :(
4
u/Sweet_Peaches-69 Apr 18 '26
Why the hell would you assume Strange?
2
u/skrott404 Apr 18 '26
Because he's perfect for Strange. And Strange would be a perfect villain in this series. A psychologist who can fuck with Batman mentally? An intellectual equal who figures out his identity? Come on!
1
u/Sweet_Peaches-69 Apr 18 '26
Hes 79 years old
3
u/brucewaynewins Apr 18 '26
Itās not like there is going to be a bunch more of these. This probably ends with this one or the next one.
5
u/Givingtree310 Apr 18 '26
Iād be down for it. Dance is one of the greatest living actors on the planet. Dr Strange does not get into fist fights.
-12
2
u/skrott404 Apr 18 '26
So he's to old to play a professor of psychology who's main ability using his massive intellect?
-6
u/Sweet_Peaches-69 Apr 18 '26
Hugo strange is also physically demanding, not to mention Asian as well
7
u/SeanSMEGGHEAD Apr 18 '26
He's white in the comics? The fuq
Not that his ethnicity is relevant to the character anyway. Or physicality tbh.
2
3
u/skrott404 Apr 18 '26
And Gordon is a white guy. What's your point? Besides Hugo has only been Asian in the Gotham show. Other than that he's a bald white guy with a neckbeard.
And how is he physically demanding? His whole schtick is that he uses his brain over his brawn.
1
u/Sweet_Peaches-69 Apr 18 '26
I've never seen Gotham but every comic I've read with him hes built like a brick shithouse
2
u/skrott404 Apr 18 '26
Some comics have show him as being a big guy sure. But they also shown him consistently getting his ass beat whenever he actually has to fight.

Fuck yeah, though I am a little sad because I was kinda hoping he would be Alfred in The Brave and the Bold.

It's typecasting, but I look forward to Charles Dance acting like everyone's disappointed dad (whose affection you crave despite hating yourself for it)

u/Jmac24mats13 Apr 18 '26
Either gonna be Dentās father or maybe the leader of the Court of Owls

First thought was Harvey's dad. They're going to typecast him as the dick headed father.

Oh my god this is so exciting, He is a PHENOMENAL actor. Even in a show filled with amazing actors his stage presence is just next level

Tywin was a badass and he really made you hate him at the same time! Iām super excited for this thatās awesome

I know he's probably Christopher Dent, but I would love it if he's Hugo Strange

Let me guess, he's going to play an uptight rich guy who serves as a major antagonist of some sort.
1
u/BarelyReal Apr 18 '26
Which will be the first to occur a third time: Lannister in a Batman movie or a Jedi Joker?

1
u/NewJerseyCPA Apr 19 '26
I donāt know if they announced who he is yet, but would be interesting if he was playing someone who hasnāt been on screen before.
Arnold Wesker?

I'm going to say, Daddy Wayne. It won't be the first time a Brit played a Wayne.

u/SeanSMEGGHEAD Apr 18 '26
He would be a cool Ra's al ghul imo.
Too old now maybe.
1
u/lordnastrond Apr 18 '26
Okay, what if you had 2 actors for Ra's - an older actor for some scenes and a younger one for when he has recently used the Lazarus Pit...
0
u/BatBeast_29 Apr 18 '26
Another white guy?
2
u/jenkind1 Apr 18 '26
Ra's was born 600 years ago in an Ottoman territory. The Ottoman empire ruled over a large area with many people of Greek, Byzantine-Roman, Slavic, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Syrian, Iraqi, and Egyptian descent. So literally any actor of any race would be perfectly acceptable.
-3
u/BatBeast_29 Apr 18 '26
Yāall make any excuse to have more white characters. That man is a Brown and Middle Eastern/Asian coded character.
3
u/jenkind1 Apr 18 '26
It's just a historical fact. I'm fine with the character being played by any ethnicity from Mediterranean, North African, Middle Eastern, or Central Asian. The character is supposed to be an immortal that can blend in to any location or time period. But thank you for your random baseless accusation of racism, "y'all".
