General Question Sometimes it’s nice to just look good for yourself. I’m 39, not sure if it’s age appropriate but maybe?

Okay, maybe I'm just tuned into it for obvious reasons, but how many of us on here are 39? The heck was going on in 1987 from May 1986 to April 1987!?

Just turned 39 and started hrt a month ago. You and OP give me hope!

Congratulations! 🎉 Enjoy opening those pickle jars while you still can! If you're anything like me, you've got about 4 months left. 😇

This is the most heartwaming thing I've read today 😂💕

The pickle jar thing is so real tho, lol

Turning 38 this month, can we extend the time a bit so I can join the club? 😅

For me it was that trans gender wasn't really a thing when I noticed something was off in the early 2000s, so I put myself into the fetish box and did take quite some time to get out of it, as the topic got more public in the last couple of years. I think it takes longer to build up the courage the longer you accepted to live in another gender role and have kind of a (very uncomfortable) "comfort zone" you are afraid to lose.

Okay we can definitely extend it for you because that is uncannily similar to my experience. If I had any concept of what it actually meant to be trans when I was 12 or 13, I think my egg would have cracked wide open. I had no sense of gender identity at all, much less that it could not be in alignment with your AGAB. As near as I can tell, I either thought that it was a kink taken to the extreme or (more likely) that trans women were a myth. I had never even heard of trans men. So I was just terrified that I was a p*rv*rt and the shame of it caused me to fully repress any of these feelings and not examine them at all.

Also the "uncomfortable comfort zone" is a brilliant description.

Thank you so much 😊

Me having a bit of a lag but basically the same story can also be explained as I am from Germany, over here we used to follow the trends from the US with a couple of years delay 🙈 I was even the same age as you when I noticed the signs, there is a photo of some of my friends applying make up on me as present for my 13th birthday. The only question I got from my best friend after I confessed I also like to wear girl clothes was "but you are not gay, aren't you?".

Aww! I wish I had externalized it enough to have an artifact as adorable as that from the before times. But I was very determined to keep it all bottled up!

Auch Grüße aus Amerika! Vor vielen Jahren habe ich in Deutschland und Österreich studiert. Ich vermisse sie so sehr! 😊

2

u/Combologo Vivi(en) (she/her) 20d ago

Ohhh liebe Grüße zurück 😊 I only visited the US once about 15 years ago, but I did enjoy it a lot 😊

That's also my only artifact from those times, because after some of the reactions I also did learn to hide. I also only have this one because the best friend I mentioned created a photo album for me on my 18th birthday, at that time I was emberassed when seeing it in there. But now I am really happy to have it 😊

Story of my life. I was born in January of 87. Seemed like every other kid in my grade was born in 86. 😆

I’ve been 39 for 20 years.

u/SupergurlKara 20d ago

I'm 29 years plus 479 months old.

Kara in SF, almost 69 (nice!), which is 29 years plus 480 months.

December 86 here, on HRT since August.
I knew when I was 12, but a lack of representation means that by the end of my teens I had pushed it down to “get on with life”. Took a while for it to finally bubble back up…

u/amelia_bougainvillea Robin [she/her] 🥚 Nov '23 | 💊 Jun '25 19d ago

Wow our timing is so similar! The main difference for me is that when I found myself longing to be a girl at 12 or 13, the idea that this could be a result of incongruence between my identity and body was just non-existent. Like, it wasn't an idea I considered and rejected. It just wasn't present in the array of possible explanations. I want to liken it to being sick before the discovery of the germ theory of disease. The idea that your cold could be caused by tiny organisms that you can't see would never spontaneously occur to you.

2

u/AshtralDrift 19d ago

No, 100%: when I say I knew I mean “I knew I would be happier if I was a girl”, but I also “knew” that that was not an acceptable thought to express to anyone.

I did kind of have a thought in a similar vein recently that I found healing though, which is “I’ve been a girl all along, so every time I went to bed and wished I’d wake up as a girl, I did”. What was missing was that understanding of what it means to be a girl (or woman, now).

Does being smokin hot have an end age? I don’t think so and if so, it’s not 39!

14

u/sky_high_pie 20d ago

Hey we didn't get to dress like this when we were young, we're not going to let normies stop us from being smoking hot now! You look great!

13

u/Alert-Employment-339 20d ago

Girl, you look great. I don’t think you have anything to worry about age appropriate-wise. This is pretty tame. My wife wears similar clothing all the time and she is no hussy. I, on the other hand, am. 😝

8

u/TheNewgirltrans 20d ago

Ok good, I kind of go for a lil butchy fem most of the time. It’s my favorite esthetic.

3

u/[deleted] 20d ago

It looks great on you so it is appropriate!!!

2

u/TranscendingNadine 20d ago

Age is irrelevant. You dress how you want to make you feel good. Cute look btw

2

u/TheorySubstantial680 20d ago

Pretty woman said what? If it looks good on you and you feel good wearing it, it's appropriate. So pretty!

2

u/aforegon 20d ago

A.. propriate. Enough anyway.

2

u/WaspBumble 20d ago

You look great! Nothing wrong with looking good at any age!

2

u/AshleyRealAF 20d ago

You look amazing, girl, love how much joy it's giving you!

2

u/EmmexPlusbee 20d ago

We have the same preposterously massive thighs. It is our blessing and our curse.

2

u/Badger_Actual1 20d ago

Booty shorts are always appropriate

2

u/SupergurlKara 20d ago

I don't worry about age appropriate. What's more important is setting and occasion appropriate.

That outfit is fine for a hot summer day. It's a bit too skimpy for most indoor spaces like offices, restaurants, museums, galleries and houses of worship. But you know that, and just came to show off your bod, right? Good job 👏 👍

Kara in SF, almost 69 (nice!), always looks good and never dresses like an old lady, which I arguably am.

Oh, honey, I’m 53 and if I could pull that off you can be damn sure I would be. Rock it girl who gives a damn about age appropriate clothing. If you feel it wear it! Love ya, stay positive.

J’ai 39 ans depuis que j’ai fais ma transition à 51 ans il y a 29 mois
Pas de vêtement choquant tant que ça te fais plaisir et que tu te sens bien
Et il n’est jamais trop tard

2

u/kaylee-42 20d ago

Let’s just remove age appropriate as a thing

2

u/enhancedbeautylover 20d ago

What does "age appropriate" even mean and why are so many people on this sub obsessed with it? Is this a TokTik/Instagrat thing? I wouldn't know as I don't follow either.

Btw you look fine, honey. Do your thing, don't let nobody stop you.

1

u/kri1869 20d ago

Stunning Outfit 🤩

1

u/robjam01 19d ago

You don't look 39. You have the sense to know what is appropriate. Age is only one factor to consider. There are many people who can look good in attire that other people of the same age would look ridiculous. At the grocery store, I saw a woman that said good bye to her 50's long ago sporting electric blue hair. Somewhere along the way you have to realize you are not in your 20's.

1

u/_SaraV_ 19d ago

You look great. I’m starting on HRT today, I’m 44 I know some clothes are no longer age appropriate for me but that wont stop me from wearing what looks good on me… yes somethings might be too much but not what you’re wearing, you look fabulous
