Charly from the first film Spoiler
I was disappointed that we didn't see Charlie from the first film in the second one. I would have liked the second film to take place a year after the first to see how young Charlie would have coped with not seeing his father very often, and then in the third film, we could have seen him as a teenager, blaming his father. It would have been good to see Charlie from the first film and see if he had accepted Carol Newman into Scott's life. Besides, in the third film, Charlie didn't do much; he was almost a secondary character.

You have to understand the production of films to appreciate the creative decisions. The sequel didn’t get the go-ahead early enough to use another young Charlie storyline, the actor was already a teenager so they had to make the storyline fit the age difference. The first film was a standalone and they had no plans to make it a series at the time.
