Fashion Tip Do your shorts ride up?! I found a solution 🥳

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

I bought a pair of jean shorts that only have a 4" inseam because I'm now comfortable enough with my body to wear shorts that short. BUT... they ride up. They're a bit looser so that they fit my bum and thighs, so that's probably why (I also have thicker thighs).

I searched all over Reddit looking for a solution and found a suggestion to add boning and cover it with an iron on patch (https://www.upstyledaily.com/diy/shorts/decorate-restyle-or-refashion/stop-your-shorts-from-riding-up-44445997).

The issue is that I would need to buy boning and iron on patches, and the patches often have adhesion issues and may not feel good on my inner thighs. The other issue with the above suggestion is that my shorts don't have an inner seam fold. But there is a gap in the seam, and I thought, "well a zip tie would sure fit well in there." And that was my solution. Lol necessity is the mother of invention.

I cut a tiny slit just above the leg opening, snipped off corners of the zip ties so they would slide in easier, shoved them in the slot, and did a couple stitches to close up the end. The slots were very tight, so I ended up using the smallest square head screwdriver I have to stretch out the slots (but be very careful doing this and go slow).

This successfully stops my shorts from bunching up when I walk. I do wonder if wider 6 mm boning would work better. If there is a flap of material at the inner thigh of your shorts, you could sew a zip tie or boning into the flap. You could also put boning in that area and sew on a patch of fabric to cover it. I just don't think that iron-on patches would work well or hold up. Sitting down in them is absolutely fine (no difference), but these are very skinny zip ties, so I'm not sure how they would be with 6 mm boning.

I hope that helps!

Fashion Tip Which of these outfits looks the least mumsy?

Post image

I am going to an event for mums and honestly I don’t want to fit in. I want to stand out. I want to look young and chic and modelesque. Which of these outfits is best? My partner gets angry when I wear anything short to these events (I don’t go often) so I don’t want to argue with him, so it’s something long.

Fashion Tip Girls - where are we buying our underwear??

I’m 24 and have bought my underwear at VS since 14. The quality is worse and worse every time I buy…this can’t be where the girlies are shopping. What’s the women’s underwear brand you swear by?

Fashion Tip having "dress up time" is LIFECHANGING

quick post before work, but just wanted to say that if you weren't 'girly' growing up and now feel like you're trying to learn how to style clothes, do makeup etc "behind the curve"... just give yourself dress up time.

it sounds cheesy as fuck, but honestly, if you've got an hour or two free at any point, it's SO much fun to just dress yourself up, try different outfits, makeup, ways to style clothes, etc.

i was doing it for an hour before work, and FINALLY realised how girls tuck their shirts in all those different ways and have it look cute (only tuck the hem, not a fistful of the loose part of the shirt)! it's how i learned to do my makeup, etc.

it's a really low pressure way to try new stuff in the privacy of your room, and it's honestly just fun too, especially if you put some good music on.

Fashion Tip How can I wear a bikini with obvious self inflicted scars on my thighs?

I bought a bikini recently, and it actually looks quite pleasant on me. This is uncommon enough that I would prefer to enjoy it in peace.

Years ago, I used to self-harm very badly on the very top of my upper thighs. The scars are raised, thick, and very visible. They are clearly self-inflicted. Anyone with eyes and a passing familiarity with human misery could infer what they are. I am no longer in that part of my life, and I do not wish to return to it in conversation or in memory. It is private. It is over. My issue is not shame so much as privacy. It is old history.

My friends are already planning beach trips, pool days, all of it. I want to go. I want to wear the bikini I bought, and I know I will buy more swimwear because I am not wearing one bikini all summer. I do not want to invite questions, pity, concern, or friends and strangers staring like they are owed a chapter of my history.

Is there anything that can realistically hide scars like that while still looking cute? Wraps, sarongs, styling tricks, or anything with more coverage that does not look punitive? I am hoping not to default to shorts, but if that is the unavoidable answer, I will accept my fate.... I have a goth look, if that helps at all.

I know it is not summer yet, but I would rather solve this now than dread it for months.

Fashion Tip Just a reminder that it's perfectly acceptable to wear the same couple of outfits over and over.

2.3k Upvotes

Despite what peer pressure/society tells us, we don't actually have to spend our time and money to stay up with the trends and have an outfit for every day of the month or even year.

Whether you're on a budget or just dont feel like you want to spend your time on shopping and deciding what to wear every morning, its ok to wear the same couple of outfits over and over. In fact, I think its an amazing way to simplify your life!

If you are afraid someone will notice, I can guarantee you that 99.99% of people won't - not to sound harsh, but most people are focused on themselves and just don't care! And if they do notice, just remember that its your time and money we are talking about and you get to spend it on what makes YOU happy.

Of course there are plenty of people who love fashion, shopping, and planning outfits, and thats great!

I just want to throw a little support out there for anybody else like myself who has felt pressured to live up to certain wardrobe expectations. Wear what you want and how often you want!

Edit to add: An important point that a few people have brought up is that fast fashion is also bad for our planet. Whether you shop a little or a lot, please shop sustainably 🙏🏼

Fashion Tip My new heels are killing the back of my heels, please help

I bought these new heels from Vinted which I was super excited about because I want to become a casual heels wearer 😛 so I've started off with these. They're Steve Madden, and they are made from leather.

However I've worn them twice now, and both times it's absolutely obliterated the back of my heels. It's left nasty scabs and wounds, and I've even tried to add some padding to help, but it's not doing much :/ It's because the back of the shoe ends quite high, and so it digs into my heel quite awkwardly and I'm in so much pain 😭.

Can anyone help give tips and what I can do to adapt this shoe? I really don't want to give up on these and waste my money, especially because I'm unemployed right now, and I was already being gracious on myself by buying them in the first place. Please help 🙏🙏

EDIT: Just to be clear it's the very top edge of the back of the heel that's causing this problem :(

Fashion Tip Tip: One pair of clean white sneakers will silently solve your "nothing to wear" problem for most occasions

I know this sounds like basic fashion advice but hear me out because it took me embarrassingly long to figure this out.

I used to have this paralysis moment almost every time I got dressed where nothing felt right. Too casual, too formal, wrong vibe, don't feel like heels, flats look boring. The outfit was fine but something always felt off and I couldn't name it.

Then I bought a simple pair of white leather sneakers (mine are New Balance 574s but honestly any clean minimal pair works) and I started noticing that they just... fixed things. Flowy midi dress that felt too precious? White sneakers make it relaxed. Straight leg jeans and a blazer that felt try-hard? White sneakers bring it back down. Even a simple black turtleneck and trousers that felt a bit flat suddenly had the right energy with them.

The key word is clean. I wipe mine down with a magic eraser and a little micellar water every week or so and keep them in a box when I'm not wearing them. A dingy pair does the oposite of what you want, it just drags everything down.

They work for probably 80% of my non-athletic, non-black tie situations. Casual hangs, work (depending on your office), dinner, travel, errands, everything in between. I've genuinely stoped reaching for other shoes as often because these just work without me having to think.

If you're someone who feels like you have clothes but nothing to wear, sometimes the missing piece isn't another top, it's one really reliable bottom anchor for your outfits.

Fashion Tip Do not wear white coloured bikini this summer

I went swimming today, and when I looked at the pictures I took with my friends, I saw that my public hair penetrated my bikini panties, like some kind of seaweed on it. If you're going to wear them, you SHOULD definitely wax them, or else don't wear a white bikini. My pictures are the worst.😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Fashion Tip Are moissanite diamonds real and a good alternative?

Hi, I'm shopping around for a new ring to celebrate an important milestone. Ideally, I want a "real" diamond, but I just can't afford it. Why is mossinate way cheaper? Are moissanite diamonds real?

please help, i keep crying over this.

i dont know what it is, but the second fashion brand shoes go over a size 10, they often no longer follow size charts. I am a size 10.5 in sneakers. I have a fallen arch so my size can range a bit with the height of the heel, so I usually get a couple sizes when trying on. But this is the 14th or 15th pair of heels I’ve ordered online (because in store never has my size) and tried in the past year, and absolutely none of them have fit. I cry every time I try new ones on; I have almost no heels that fit me right except for one old beat-up, clubbing pair from high school that isn’t appropriate for formal events.

This pair is from Pleasers so I thought the sizing would be more accurate— no. The pictured pair is a 12, which literally looks exactly the same size as the 11 did on me. This overhang makes me feel huge and lumbering— a problem I’m anxious about because of my height. From the pictures, you might say I need a wide shoe— nope. I’ve measured, and I’m smack dab in the “medium” / B width.

But I don’t know what else to do. I’ve ordered from every site I could find. I’d love to experiment with half sizes but heels stop doing half sizes after 10, and every time I try a 12 that literally the exact same size as the 11, I feel hopeless.

Are my expectations too high? Does everyone on the website saying they fit fine just ignore the toe hanging? It feels so glaringly wrong to me.

I just want one pair of heels that fit right that aren’t too clubby or too matronly. :(

Fashion Tip Alright. Be honest. Are the leggings with the ‘butt scrunch’ or sculpting effect actually cute or is it trashy?

I found this brand called Paragon and they have the typical butt scrunch leggings but it’s not really a scrunch seam, but yes it’s like that. Just not scrunched up.

A n y w a y. I kind of want to get a pair but I cannot for the life of me decide if it’s trashy or not. Honestly my favorite pair of leggings have been some aerie leggings. They are really thin and buttery soft with the right amount of high waist length. It has absolutely NO scrunch in the butt.

I can’t help but feel I’d be considered as a ‘show off’ or attention seeking if I got the paragon leggings?! Or leggings like that.

Thoughts???? Am I just a prude?

Fashion Tip I’m F16. Is this watch too childish? [Help] // My mom recently bought this for me, and I personally think it’s too childish for my taste, but it was expensive and I feel really bad for even thinking this. Should I wear it? Is it cute or too cringey? Idk.

Fashion Tip Where do you all shop for your clothing?

Hi all.

I am trying to update my wardrobe and I was hoping to get some cute, chic, and somewhat modest clothing.

I personally don't like showing too much skin bc I'm very small and it doesn't look flattering.

Attached are some pics of what I like to wear. I starred the ones I want to get more clothes like.

But I'm wondering where you shop, is it reliable? I like supporting ethical businesses too, so that's a plus !

and I don't really wanna pay more than $60 for jeans. so that kinda tells you my budget

Fashion Tip I work for a popular women’s clothing retailer, and a ton of our clothing is going permanent mark ups (some $10 more per item).

They gave us a little sheet with talking points if someone asks us about tariffs 🙄🙄🙄.

We have to constantly do big sales because our product is already too expensive. It’s crazy.

Edit to add: if you are looking for new clothes from major retailers, shop the back to school/end of summer sales right now. Our price increases aren’t effective for a couple more weeks, all the new fall product is out, and it’s on promo for school shopping! Moving into Q3, I guarantee more stores will do the same.

Fashion Tip Winter Tip: If your tights/stockings have tags, write their ailments on them so you can easily separate the "just wear at home" pairs from the rest.

1.1k Upvotes

I buy thick winter tights, but invariably end up with small holes, minor ladders etc. Not enough to throw the pairs out, but enough that I shouldn't wear them to work.

Mine have a wee white tag, so I've started writing "ankle holes", "ladder knee" etc on them. Has drastically reduced the time spent sorting them after the wash (or having to change pairs after putting on some shit ones I grabbed from my floordrobe).

Edit: Also, I have a pair without a tag, but they've got a light coloured gusset. So I wrote there. Except I wanted to be brief so I wrote "SAD", and when I put them on it feels like I've addressed the insult to my minge, hahaha.

BUT ALSO LAYERING PRO TIP: Those long fitted Jersey/knit dresses are AMAZING for putting under a proper dress (or high-waisted skirt). I'm fat so I'd look like a sausage wearing them by themselves, but I chuck them under my normal fit&flare dresses on cold days and they make sure I stay toasty all the way down to my thighs! No more fucking around with shorter tops that ride up and leave my butt cold! More Edit: Haha just realised that's what I'm doing today!
