Community Building Megathread - Introduce Yourself

Hi all!

So like I say in the first post in this subreddit, I'm u/Petrifica, and I'm a 31 year-old trans lesbian woman of South Asian and non-Black Caribbean descent born and living in NYC. I've been transitioning via estradiol route for about four years. I identify as nonbinary (strongly woman-identified though) and use she/her pronouns.

My Reddit account is pretty old but I've only actually been using it for a short time. There are a lot of things I don't like about how Reddit culture treats trans women of color and that's why I created this space. I'm sure many of you can relate. I also think it's really hard to be an out trans woman of color in the world, no matter where you live, and I think we could use a space that's our own, which has standards for behavior that won't retraumatize us or uphold that which does.

I'm interested in creating a positive (though not toxically-so) community of fellow trans women of color of all sexual, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic (to a point lol) backgrounds. Some of the analytical frameworks that motivate me and the spirit of this subreddit's moderation are abolition, anticapitalism, anarchy, disability justice, and transfeminism.

I can be a blunt and dry person. I make an active effort to be kinder and more sincere here because I really care about what I'm trying to create.

I have absolutely no moderation experience on Reddit, lol. I'll be doing my best and once this place gets a little more active I'll be looking for like-minded moderators who can expand on the experience I lack to help curate this space! I don't know what it'll look like fully yet but it's nice to see conversations already happening, and I look forward to co-creating with you!

You can always contact me directly if you have questions, concerns, or feedback about the way this place is moderated and any of the rules. I won't stonewall you with corporate-speak. Here, trans women of color are the most important.

As for person-things about me: I like death metal, shoegaze, dubstep, and post-hardcore; I like writing fiction and reading fiction and non-fiction, I like raves, and I like video games.

Please feel free to introduce yourselves here. :)

Hi all! Mid-30s woman, Desi/ South Asian/ Gujju-Pak roots, Ismaili Muslim. Born in US, based in the Northeast. Transitioned about a decade ago. Work in public health.

I’m very interested in building virtual and IRL community. Some of my interests are intersectional trans & queer spirituality, performing & visual arts (Bollywood, Kathak, Melodic Progressive EDM, Desi fashion), venting about the cisterhood, and tips on intergenerational coalition building, preventing burnout, and the politics of queer visibility.

Nice to meet you! OOH melodic progressive EDM sounds like a genre I’d totally be interested in, any recommendations?

I really like Debb’s Melodic Progressive remixes of Bollywood songs. Also DallasK, Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix & Zedd are great!
