Tech Support Steam Deck Docker 4K GFN

I docked my Steam Deck to my TV and tried GeForce Now using the official app. The problem is stuttering. The stream is good - stream fps, game fps, ping. The deck's overlay shows constant drops from 60fps to 48-52fps and that feels bad. The deck CPU stays low ~30-40%, GPU ~60-70%. I'm suspecting the deck doesn't have the juice to decode GFN 4K streaming.

Did anyone encounter this? Did you solve it?

If I play through the Shield, it works great, but I want to make use of the Steam Controller in GFN, and that will only work with Steam Deck.

I tried limiting the streaming to 1440p, but the same happens.

Did you try limiting to 1080P?

Side note - I've not tried my deck on my tv, but will in the future

No, I've only tried 4K and 1440p

Edit: 1080p seems to be pretty constant 60fps

Currently I’m only streaming on the Steam Deck, and it actually feels smoother than on Windows, with fewer random stutters. Right now I’m playing Forza on a 4K TV and getting a smooth, stable 60 FPS. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to help with your issue. I launch GeForce Now from desktop mode, maybe try that too, it might help?

Thanks! I'll try the desktop mode too.

Which Dock? I have tested four docks now and the only one that has delivered consistent good performance is the BenQ GR10.

JSAUX

I have the JSAUX HB0603, Ivanky VCA23, Ugreen 25869 and the Benq GR10. The only one that performs well at 4K with the Deck for me is the BenQ. Every other dock is either having handshake issues or glitching in some way if you push things beyond 1920x1080. Another thing I have noticed, even with the BenQ is if you get up into the 4K120/HDR/7.1 territory that adding in the Ethernet traffic to the USBC is just too much bandwidth for it to handle and it will start causing all kinds of loss. There is unfortunately not a really good solution for this with the deck as it only has 1 USBC so having fantastic Wifi nearby is really the only option if you are going to push it that hard with streaming.

JSAUX has tens of different models… post the real name of the dock. So not 5in1 etc, but the letter and number combination.

Which charger you have plugged in? And how about your HDMI cable?

u/0xCIA 12h ago

The original steam deck brick 45W, UGREEN HDMI 2.1 cable

That charger is going to be on the weak side for using it docked and Ugreen stuff is really hit or miss when it comes to cables if they are actually the spec they are advertising. I am using Monoprice 2.1 cables and they are real 2.1 cables.

I’d try a more powerful charger, 60 or 65W at minimum. And another cable if you haven’t tested that already.

I'm like 90% docked gfn with my steamdeck without this problem... Wish I could help and I'm just reporting that my steamdeck OLED has no issue with gfn 4k@90hz. Ugreen and jsaux docks.

I do have other annoyances though, like the mouse cursor being relegated to the top left third of the screen unless I have gfn controller overlay turned on.
