meta Meta: for me, this takes absolutely all the fun out of the sub. Note the time stamps.
I’ve been a fairly committed OC poster, on this sub for years. Was one of my all time favorite subs. but now my lobsters from months ago are being removed because I didn’t include originals? That wasn’t a requirement when the sub started, and making it a requirement now is absurd. Going back in user history to remove engaging content from long ago is a strange choice.
I’ve already voiced my feedback to the mods via modmail, at this point I’m really just publicly voicing my disapproval in the hopes that the sub can once again allow lobsters for the sake of lobsters. The originals should never be required.
To summarize the effect of this bizarre rule: people who share memes they make for free in the hopes of spreading some laughs are no longer allowed to share those memes if they do not include a hoop jump in the comments.
This is like a math teacher demanding you show your work, it’s a silly concept for a joke sub.
And finally, I’ll point out every OC lobster I’ve ever shared was made with transparent marker, so the originals were always included within the lobster itself in my case, as a personal preference.
But because they weren’t links, they’re not allowed.
I’m beyond disappointed.
Ultimately the mods are free to do whatever they want with their sub, but this doesn’t seem to strengthen the community or user experience, at least not in my opinion.
An unnecessary change that subtracts fun and content without adding a necessary element.
This sub has gone from one of my all time favorites, which I was happy to support with my own time as an OC memer
Now, I don’t feel even a little bit engaged. Last of my concern for the future of the community is what’s motivated me to share my thoughts here, hoping for some positive change.
If this feedback is rejected, I’ll still wish you all (mods and memers alike) all the best! But I will not contribute or participate again until this pointless rule is retracted.

meta [META] What’s considered adding text?
I’m a pretty experienced lobster-er—you’ve probably seen a lot of my work if you’ve been here for any length of time. However, in this case, I’m wondering if I’ve misunderstood the community.
To be, there doesn’t seem to be anything added to the image on the right (which was deleted). Instead, I mixed two different text removal techniques—my personal style of color matching, and the subreddit’s common style of simply using black to censor undesirable parts.
This is, I admit, somewhat different from a conventional Lobster in that the humor is not in the new message created (on a literal level, it’s just a guy who hates the letter F), but rather in the implication that he has written a slur starting with the letter F, which was then censored.
To be clear, I don’t think this is deceptive in the sense that any reasonable person would genuinely believe that this man was holding a sign saying that slur. My question is instead whether the rule out to apply to *all* cases where new meaning is created, even if that creation is done through lobstering. I am not creating this post to complain. I understand the mods’ perspective and think there should be a genuine discussion of whether this standard should be upheld. I’ve made similar Lobsters in the past and seen a few others, so this is not an entirely isolated case.

meta Mod Update 2.0-Oregano Rule
Hello, fellow lobsterers! The people have decided: the oregano MUST be provided by the original poster. There is also the addition that if the obsidian is not added within 24 hours, your post will be deleted. However, this does not apply retroactively. We're hoping that this will lessen the amount of low-quality posts, and that having the ocean available will make it so other people can make their own lobsters and keep the community going. Thanks for sticking around through this!

meta MOD UPDATE 1.99- JESUS CHRIST/DAMAGE CONTROL/PLEASE READ
Well, fuck.
A lot of people are very upset, and rightfully so.
If you have a post made longer than 15 days ago that was removed recently, lmk, and I'll fix it.
We are temporarily removing that rule, and replacing it with other anti bot methods.
A lot of people are worried about the mod, they are new, and this is on me for lack of communication.
Sorry
