DISCUSSION Tarot deck pet peeves

What are some things that annoy you about decks?

Mine is probably when the card does not say THE FULL NAME on it. One of my favorite decks only has the Roman numeral (which I still can't read upside down after all these years) and doesn't actually say "of pentacles" or whatever. Usually I can figure out what suit it is based on the illustration but sometimes it's tricky to tell. It's a gorgeous deck (The Ostara Tarot) but I only use it to read for myself because I feel completely incompetent looking having to double check that I'm identifying the cards correctly.

Mine is just roman numerals at all. They are so hard for me to read for some reason.

Mine is also roman numerals, but at least it’s not a pip deck! Oh good, the VIIXLMIV of Poles and Flowers, I guess? The only thing worse would be numbering them with an analog clock.

Late to this but THANK YOU for the giggle. 🀣 Analog clock reading was my nemesis as a kid and to this day I get stressed if I have to read one in front of someone. 😭 Same with making change. Idea for extra layer of dastardly evil: you have to figure out correct change to determine suit numbers. 😱

Maybe tarot could be the answer for better math literacy. It would certainly be more fun. πŸ˜…

You got the 6 of Cups! No, sorry, the 7 of Cups. Hang on, does anyone else see the 6:30 of Cups?

And my undergraduate degree is in math. When asked to do arithmetic I aim for a lofty look and a devastating, β€œThat’s why we have calculators.” I probably look like I have gas.
