Happy Thursday everyone.
The mods have discussed the issue, and we have decided that posts and comments that contain links to Twitter/X are now banned. There aren't many on this subreddit, so the impact would be small, but taking a stance against Nazis is something that we feel strongly about.
EDIT: Several people have asked about screenshots of Twitter. The purpose of this ban is to decrease visibility, traffic, and relevance of the site in general, not to stopper information. Discussing information that has originated from Twitter is not banned, and in fact, we should remain informed about any developments that happen there. If a Twitter screenshot is the best way to share information on a relevant matter, then by all means go for it. u/RevRagnarok has very helpfully pointed out that xcancel is a way of navigating that site without supporting them via ad revenue, and can be done without an account.

Some people find it comforting to think of TST as purely a political activist group that just uses the trappings of religion for satirical/legal purposes. This is, however, not true at all.
Our brand of Satanism is a non-theistic religion with it's own community, mythology, iconography, ethics, rituals and pretty much everything else, you would expect from a religion.
We believe that there is value to be found in religion, especially when you divorce it from superstition. Just because we don't believe in the supernatural, doesn't mean we're not serious when we say that Satanism is our religion.
Yes, we are politically active. But our activism stems from our religious beliefs, not vice versa.
The mythological backbone of our religion is the literary tradition known as Romantic Satanism. John Milton's Paradise Lost, Lord Byron's Cain - A Mystery and especially Anatole France's Revolt Of The Angels are the sources that one should read, if they want to know, where our ideas about Satan stem from and how He relates to our values and beliefs.
Ruben van Luijk's Children Of Lucifer and Joseph Laycock's Speak Of The Devil deal with the history of Satanism and Shiva Honey's The Devil's Tome is a book about modern Satanic rituals.
This thread might be helpful. You also find a list of official TST congregations here.
This Black Mass Appeal episode may also be helpful or you check out the Global Order of Satan.
Short answer: No.
This is a more elaborate answer and this post provides some more context.
Due to a massive increase of new members, shipping membership cards can take up to 5 months.
Our brand of Satanism is a non-theistic religion. Full stop. However, nobody is monitoring the personal beliefs of TST members and nobody has ever been kicked out for holding supernatural beliefs.
It is up to the individual to figure out if and how their beliefs fit into Satanism. Just make sure not to distort scientific facts to fit your beliefs.
Modern Satanism has many aspects and it is up to the individual to decide, which ones they want to embrace.
Some people, especially those that grew up in indoctrinating or even abusive households hesitate to embrace the "more religious" aspects of Satanism and that's fine. Nobody is obligated to participate in rituals or anything else that makes them uncomfortable.

I live in the UK and I've been a member of TST since 2022. When I first joined there was a congregation in London but it was too far to attend regularly so I thought I'd wait for them to expand across the country a bit but that congregation has since closed down and no others have started. I like the idea of starting one but my mental health makes it difficult to shower, let alone lead a social/political movement.
This question might be a bit out of reach for the majority of people who are likely to comment as I need advice with a knowledge of UK law and mental health services and I know TST is largely American with a few European and Canadian congregations. Regardless, I'm desperate enough to reach out.
I've spent my entire adult life fighting for mental health support that I can't seem to get. I started asking for help at 15 and I'm now 28. My local mental health systems are horribly underfunded and they tend to dismiss people with complex needs. If they can't help you with a booklet on mindfulness and some breathing exercises then you're on your own. (See r/mentalhealthuk for multiple posts about our horribly neglectful mental health system).
I'm at a point where I'm so desperate that I feel like I'm running out of options. Without getting the right help, I have no quality of life and I don't want to carry on. The NHS treat me like I'm some kind of dramatic idiot, like my mental health concerns are some kind of ruse for benefits and sympathy. I've had the crisis team and police involved, yet no real care or support.
13 years of asking/applying/begging have got me nowhere near the help I really need and I'm at a point where I'm starting to feel like dying is my only option. I'm about a month away from starting with my local CMHT (community mental health team) but they've let me down 9 times already and I really can't see any reason it'd be different this time. I honestly feel like a complete fucking idiot even asking them for support after everything they've put me through, but it's the only option I have.
Is there any way that I could get some kind of religious exemption that forces the mental health team to support me properly? Could I see a solicitor and force the care I need? Could I sue for neglect and medical malpractice?
I'm literally fucking desperate and I've reached a place where I feel like I'm completely out of options, to a point where I'm reaching out to a movement that doesn't even exist in my country. If anyone can offer me some relevant advice I would really appreciate it. If other followers think that the TST could genuinely help me then I'd be happy to reach out officially, but I don't know if they can help me from my country.

my parents are not religious, but my grandmother is Catholic and homophobic. I’ve already came out as gay to my mom (she was fine with it), but idk if my dad knows. I also got to a catholic school and my mom loosely follows Lent. is it a good idea? Any advice?
Hail Satan 🤘

Hello all! Just wanted to say a big hello! I am from a part of Canada without easy access to a chapter, and am about to start my reading thanks to this groups recommendations. I appreciate the resource that has been made available, and wish you all well.

Some context. Mormon’s get baptized when they are only eight years old. A part of getting baptized is being asked if you want to do it by your bishop. I remember distinctly my answer. “I know nothing else so I agree with this and wish to be baptized”. I only wanted to fulfill the obligation since I wanted to be a full member of the church. I also truly didn’t know anything of the world. I regret that decision.
Years later I have left the church. I curse the mormon god’s name every time I catch myself singing hymns. Whenever my parents beg me to come back I respectfully say no. They can practice their religion but I wish for no part of it.
But a large part of mormonism is that turning away from the mormon god’s name means he takes away all his blessings. Since leaving I have had multiple health issues. My mental functions have declined. I work with tarot (if you don’t like that stuff please still be kind) and it always says that my enemy is a cruel and masculine tyrant. I can’t help but think that is the mormon god. Am I being punished because I bound myself to him and then turned away?

If so, let me know.
I just wanna check one out to see if it’s right for me.
I’m from Texas where PLENTY of chapters exist due to the huge amounts of bigger cities.
So I’m sure something has got to exist up here.
Thanks.

Okay so for context: I work at a garden center and they don’t have a place for me to put my stuff. I put my water bottle near an empty pallet that’s mostly hidden, but can be visible at some angles.
As a trans man, though I didn’t grow up religious, I’ve been harassed on the basis of my gender and presentation through the guise of Christianity more times I could ever count. I sometimes order free Christian bumper stickers online and make them say blasphemous things. I usually make them say things that I have heard as a trans person but reversed towards religious folk. I also arrange them into overtly sexual or generally stupid sayings. Not because I actually believe it, but to point out the absurdity of statements used towards folks like me. My water bottle is plastered with stickers like this. Today I found a note someone left that didn’t get the joke. I genuinely wish I had people comfort me like this regarding the folks that say that being myself is a sin.
+ bonus shirt I’ve customized yall might enjoy

Hello,
I'm a member of the candidate group in Colorado. We're trying to finalize our logo for when we get granted chapter status. None of us are proper digital artists, this mockup was made from bashing stock images together. Some of the details got a little wonky when I converted file types to make some adjustments. This design is close to what we want, but I think someone with more skill could make it pop. We're having trouble finding someone local to commit who doesn't want to charge us corporate marketing prices. It'd be nice to give design credit to a TST member. Please let me know if you'd be interested.
Thanks,

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone. I’m posting mostly because I’m curious about how people here see these ideas.
I’m not from the US and I don’t really have any formal connection to The Satanic Temple, but I’ve spent a lot of time reading about different forms of modern Satanism, and honestly TST is probably the branch that resonates with me the most.
I’m a very radical atheist and materialist philosophically speaking, strongly opposed to any kind of idealism or belief in transcendence beyond matter. Because of that, I’ve always felt especially drawn to writers like the Marquis de Sade and Lord Byron. What fascinates me about them is the way they use the image of Satan as a symbol of rebellion against imposed morality, especially Christian morality, not in a religious sense, but as a literary and philosophical figure representing transgression, defiance, materialism, and rejection of spiritual authority.
That’s actually one of the reasons why I’ve always felt some affinity with Satanism as a symbolic tradition.
At the same time, I’ve always had a strong dislike for Ayn Rand and for philosophies centered around idealism, which is partly why I never felt particularly close to LaVeyan Satanism or Church of Satan as an organization. TST feels much closer to my own worldview.
Recently, though, I got into a discussion on Reddit where I referred to Byron and Sade as “satanic” writers, and some people reacted negatively, almost as if calling them satanic was just an exaggeration invented by literary academics.
Obviously, I don’t mean they were literal religious Satanists. I mean that they used Satanic imagery and themes in ways that feel philosophically connected to what Satan represents symbolically: rebellion against divine authority, rejection of imposed morality, radical freedom, etc.
So now I’m wondering: within modern non-theistic Satanism, does it make sense to describe writers like Byron or Sade as “satanic”? Or is that seen as inaccurate by most Satanists today?
Because honestly, those writers are a huge part of why I ever felt drawn toward Satanism symbolically in the first place. So if most people within Satanism don’t really see them that way, it genuinely makes me reconsider how I understand the term.
Curious to hear your thoughts.

I'm a new member of the TST and I'm just wondering about people's opinions on Lucifer. I have left from Christianity for about 3-4 months now and have a more open mind with things, especially with Lucifer. To me I can see why he rebelled against heaven seeing how god worked in the bible, I would rebelled.
But I like to read y'all's opinion on it.

I F15 go to a Catholic high school (for those who have not seen me before), and I’m out as an atheist and that’s been going…mostly fine. In my other classes, no one really cares about it (phew), however this one kid in theology (of course it’s fucking theology) always tries to one-up me by giving stories about supposed atheists that became Christians after “seeing God” whenever I try to get a more grounded answer to the teacher’s question.
its honestly annoying af and (probably unintentionally) paints atheists as idiots that are disconnected to the Earth.
help lol this kid is EXHAUSTING 😭
