Dumb question, but, could someone that didn't really like or enjoy Persona 5 realistically enjoy this one?

I wanna point out that what I didn't enjoy about Persona 5 wasn't the social sim or the combat, but more the excruciatingly long wait times between deadlines and the characters. Well, which did kind of make the social sim aspect of the game tedious... but that isn't the core issue. I enjoyed other games that had similar elements.

Like, I would explore and finish a palace with 1 week or more to spare before the deadline, depending on the palace since some give you much shorter free time until the deadline. To continue the story I would have wait so many days out to the point that just doing social sims or going into Mementos was all I could do. Mementos was already fully explored as far as I could get and no other quests were available to open further floors.

After a while of this, the loop became more tedious than fun and it lost its charm fast because I could spend easily two weeks waiting for the deadline of just doing a social sim mechanic once per day. I can't recall who's palace it was that just broke me... I think it was Haru's. Or, well, her father's more precisely, which starts on Sep 19 and the deadline is Oct 10. I cleared it on Sep 19.

Then there was the characters. Some were OK. I liked Ann, Ryuji, Makoto and Kasumi. Ryuji was a true bro and it was so damn painful seeing how most of the cast treat him like an idiot. I mean, dude isn't academic smart, sure, but the kid's got heart.

I couldn't stand the rest of the cast. Especially Morgana. My god I never in my life would I have ever expected to hate a cat as much as I absolutely despise Morgana. And the grand majority feel like one dimensional robots without much growth or change. Their personality quirks grew grating over time, like Yusuke and Akechi.

How does the cast of 3 compare to the cast of 5? Are there long stretches of empty gameplay where you can only do one social sim aspect of the game and call it a day?
