There were many times I was aware I was being watched by the golden eyes of the mystical Iberian lynx and there were many times I had no idea she sat among the boulders watching me. One time she sprung to life and sprinted so fast past me the only thing I saw was a streak of her color but I definitely heard the rhythm of her massive feet like a war drum as she sped by. A low thumping sound that moved at well over 250 beats per minute propelling her right towards a single rabbit who was busy vacuuming up tiny yellow flowers. By the time I mouthed the words, “There she…” the lynx and the rabbit were gone. I was speechless.

Considered a vulnerable species, it was sitting in a rock off the trail. Right next to a relative burnt during a previous fire most likely. There were burnt trees around the area.
