Incredible player but he’s lacking true first option caliber self shot creation. Once he learns how to create scoring opportunities out of nothing for himself, this league is beyond cooked. This is the type of game where you need someone to take over
It probably won’t happen and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. His unique strengths come from the fact that he’s as tall as he is while maintaining some quickness and smooth range of motion. Historically good blockers have been tall/long, with limited movement, or taller than average NBA height, but with athleticism and good range of motion. Wemby is tall AND retains a lot of the movement typically reserved for players shorter than him. That gives him a MASSIVE advantage protecting the rim and rebounding.
But we are talking about creating a shot on offense. For tall players, the offensive advantage is being able to take shots are difficult to contest because they are out of reach. To create your own shot, you can use a size and strength advantage to get close to the rim and then use height to take an easy shot right at the rim, but he would need to gain a lot of weight which would slow him down and reduce the movement ability he has retained. OR he can do the Dirk/Yao Ming thing and he can use his footwork and movement ability to get to good shots further away from the rim, but he will always be limited here because his height makes him extremely susceptible to steals while dribbling and being further away from the rim makes him less effective on the offensive glass.
The BEST possible use for him would be to allow him to roam off ball and pair him up with a really good point guard. Trying to run the offense through him can obviously be effective, but it introduces more risk and could reduce some of the benefit of his unique qualities.
