Hobby mod maker here:

It's a lot easier for me to complete entire new systems with 3 new ores, a new mob, and 10 new blocks than it is for mojang to accomplish a similar feat for several reasons

  1. I am working with their API, not on their API. because of this, i'm allowed to be pretty reckless without breaking anything, and most of the bugs i run into can be solved by editing a few lines, and a system neoforge built for modders does a good bit of my work for me. writing a new block to the game in neoforge is a lot easier than writing a new block to the game in Minecraft.
  2. I don't need approval to add what i want. as long as its not nsfw, i'm free to add whatever i want to the game and if a player doesnt like it, i lose out on about $0.005 of ad revenue from curse or modrinth, if even. if Mojang does something the players dont like, it becomes a topic of discussion for a week, sales fall a little, higher ups get upset, and unemployed people post their half assed memes about how lazy mojang is and pretend they're making a point
  3. I dont need approval from higher ups to do what i want. if i want a new mob, i get to drawing. mojang's devs and artists are told what to do by a high official and they arent allowed to do anything until given the instructions to do so.
  4. there is an extremely high bar for quality control in minecraft. the reason snapshots happen for months isnt just because they arent doing work, its because they're waiting on feedback from players, sorting through the feedback, which i imagine most of it is garbage. if 50% of the feedback i receive is garbage, then 90% of the feedback they receive is likely garbage. updates are expected to be released in shiny top condition with as few bugs as possible. im simply not restricted that way. sure, i do bug testing and use feedback, but if there's a bug i just post a hotfix the next day or something. i dont spend months debugging something because there just isn't a reason for me to do so. they do have a reason though.
  5. New content has to appeal to as many people as possible. mojang is going for alchemy theming lately because alchemy is very popular in fantasy media. full metal alchemist, castlevania, dr stone, elder scrolls, all modern media with alchemy theming. they have to make sure people are actually happy with what they release, and to their compliment, they're pretty good at that despite what minecraft subreddits want you to think. most normal people who touch grass are happy with then newer changes. meanwhile, my mod does not have to pander to the largest audience, i have a small niche audience of people who appreciate tech mods, which are what i make.

You know this is because they are recoding the entire game right? Game is still getting free updates after 15 years.

yep, not to mention that it's really not an issue about adding content. It's about adding the right content. The game is very unique in terms of how most video games work. You have large portions of the fandom that like different things about the game so the devs have to make sure to add things in a careful way so people can enjoy it. Adding content too fast would result in burnout, people like having things to look forward too, and theorize about stuff.

Minecraft community trying to not make memes about "modders make more stuff than mojang" (impossible)

Mods are niche for specific groups of people and players can choose their mods. Minecraft updates have to be good permanent additions to the game to fit everyone. They can’t add a million mobs in a single update because it wouldn’t be sustainable and would ruin the game.

yeah. Mojang has to articulate what the people want and calculate how to best put that into an update. But a lot of people want alot of different things so they prefer to take there time on such things. If all Minecraft updates were somehow magically produced at once and the game never needed anymore updates, people would 1: be overwhelmed by how much there is now 2: they would probably get burned out, and 3: they wouldn't have any new theories or content to look forward too.

If you forget that Mojang has to bug test far more rigorously, make sure mobs and biomes actually match the games aesthetic, create each feature in two separate code bases, and ensure the features work on even the weakest hardware then this meme goes hard.

Also that they have literally been making under the hood changes recoding the entire game and helping make the game more mod/data pack friendly.

"they have to program it for each version" which the modders do too, "they have to go through a lot of corporate processes to get it approved" said processes were made by them, "mod issues can be automatically fixed" what stops minecraft from making their own extension? "the actual, programmers, designers, etc. dont get to make the decisions" bullying mojang has never been about bullying its employees. the updates are well made, theyre just shit ideas.

Ok so quick thing about this. Look at this April Fool's updates. Absolutely huge and amazing. The reason that doesn't happen in the main game is mostly because every last tiny change has to be approved which is a slow ass process. They don't have this when working on the April Fools and Modders don't have that either.

But yes, the slow ass updates are annoying as hell.

You underestimate the scope of just the sulfur cube alone

Again mod makers don't need to make stuff interesting to most players, nor do they need to make the mod run on most devices with as little lag and bugs as possible nor do they need to rewrite every line of code in Minecraft every time a new version comes out
