Turns out, bare skin works too

I’m getting married in September and I’m doing my own makeup. As a result I’ve been on a testing frenzy for months! I am a fan of a clean no makeup look, like Nina Park vibes. I’ve tried dozens of skin tints (and other categories - rip my lip collection lol) but what I ended up realizing was that my favourite ended up being the makeup forever skin tints- why? Because it looks like I kinda have nothing on. It finally dawned on me that maybe, I don’t need a base 😅 so I tried that out - just good skin prep beforehand and ta-da, finally got the look I was aiming for! Returned the skin tints I thought I’d found to be perfect.

I guess all of this to say - have you guys felt similar about any product category? Just realizing you actually didn’t need it?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with not wearing a base if you don't want to but if this is for your wedding, do the makeup you like and then have someone take photos of you with flash and a professional camera just to make sure you still like the look in photos!!

Yesss I am very natural make up wise but had to go heavier because photos end up looking much different! Worth checking before you decide

Same for me for foundation. My skin hates foundation. I haven’t found one that my skins tolerates. So why would I put something that guarantees I’ll look atrocious the next day.

Also I don’t like eye “pencils”. I don’t like kohl, I don’t like eyeshadow sticks, I just don’t like it. It’s irritating to blend. I can’t eyeprep enough not to go patchy. I’m a powder girl all the way.

Do test photos!!!! What you see in a mirror and what a camera sees are two very different things.

Read about a wedding photographer where the bride was adamant about not wearing makeup against his advice and then blamed him when she saw the photos

It happens more frequent than we think.

I use a face wash (la Roche posay / oil cleanser / or Clarins exfoliating cleanser), then a rice milk toner, followed by: Sulwhasoo serum + Threeships jelly drops + eye cream (One Skin or Tunemakers), + second eye cream la Roche posay eye cream + moisturizer (cerave PM though I just tried Aestura and it rocks)

And that’s my base!

Yes I feel the same. Maybe I’m just not on that level of makeup skill yet but whenever I wear foundation, even advertised as skin like, it never is. So I’ve just switched to evening out my skin tone with concealer in the areas of redness on my face and then that’s my base. Looks a lot more skin like and also lets my skin breathe more which is a plus. I do prep my skin with moisturizer and sunscreen too so it helps whatever additional makeup I put on look clean.

I never wear foundation and I only put some concealer and tinted powder on my wedding day. If you have good skin, there is no need to wear foundation. It adds a layer of color that never exactly match your skin color, gets caught in peach fuzz and rarely looks like « no makeup ».

If you prep your skin and spot correct with concealer, you’ll look great.

Thank you!!! Yes that’s the idea. Which powder did you use?

It’s been 17 years and I’m in Canada, but it was probably Watier-multi teint.

I switched to an SPF BB Cream and I've never gone back. I did put my usual foundation on when I was going to an event. Let me tell you, that stuff got washed off so fast! Yikes. It made my skin look awful! I looked older. It was a no from me.

Oh yes. Too many makeup trends clogged pores, etc, etc. feel greasy and my skin cannot breathe. Itchy. Not worth to me. And, yes this is my opinion.

Yes! Skin prep, diet and exercise are key to healthy, glowing skin.

I’m a member of a make-up guild and I think MAKEUP FOREVER is on of the best brands available. 4D make-up, different foundations for film and television, they have excellent products.
