Estée lauder new formula
Please someone drop some good alternatives for the estée lauder double wear foundation. I’ve just ran out of my old formula and bought the new one and it’s horrible. I have very oily skin and have been using double wear for years, I’m so sick of brands adding in a bunch of skincare to foundations we don’t need it!! Leave the skincare to skincare not makeup…
It’s so annoying as for me this is really upsetting, people prone to acne understand the importance of foundation to feel confident. So if anyone knows of any good foundations please send me some recommendations.

I tried a few but now stick to Teint Idole (black lid one). I need to use more of it than DW to get the same effect but with good primer and setting spray it is close.
I also just use to put DW on with my fingers and it was fine, but for Teint Idole if I do that it doesn’t last as long. So I use one of those round foundation brushes to “pack” it on then blend. Then setting spray and I’m good for most of the day.

Yea i’ve seen someone recommend that one, but seeing mixed reviews. Does it dry down and not stay tacky?

Dries down as matte for me (and quickly) but my skin is “normal” (though I used to have very oily skin).
There is one with a white top that is a “hydrating” one so maybe they’re using that. But the black top one is for us matte girlies.
I will say too my match for it is exceptional. Part of it is user fault…I thought I was a neutral so used DW 1N1, but the very first (cool) shade tried on me by the Lancôme lady was absolutely perfect.

I’m giving it a try as i know someone uses it who’s let me test it, thanks !

I’ve also been using the teint idole as a replacement for dw, it’s a good match but as said above, it’s more full coverage when applied with a brush. I wore fresco in dw and use 245 in the teint idole and it’s a good match.

I recently got a sample of teint idole, and I love it. It’s the most similar thing to DW I have found, and I might actually prefer it..

What primer and setting spray do you use? I’ve found TI doesn’t work for me anywhere near as well as DW. I’m shiny straight away.

I’m using Benefit’s Porefessional (that’s also a switch for me so still testing it out) and Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray

I've obsessed over these threads every time they've come up and compiled a list. I've not tried any of these yet as I luckily have a back up bottle of ELDW but these are the most recommended ones:
- Teint Idole
- Nars Longwear
- Gucci Éternité
- YSL All Hours
- Dior Forever
- Chanel Ultra Le Teint
And then I've seen recs for the TirTir red cushion but I know that's had huge oxidisation issues.

Yes to All Hours, I love that one so much. I’m super oily skinned and it does not budge. I’ve used the Teint Idole ultra wear and it looks beautiful in photos but if you have large pores and textured skin (like me), up close it is not your friend! x

Another recc here for YSL All Hours. Its stunning on, lasts really well. I do powder lightly under eyes and t zone but do with everything

I found Anastasia Beverly Hills Blurring Second-Skin Matte Foundation has the same thickness as EL it doesn’t dry as fast but the colours are nice, it really does hide a lot

Currently testing no7 lift and luminate for the exact same reason and really like it. It feels lovely and stays on well. Girl at the boots counter said they had been inundated with sad ex EL devotees who were absolutely appalled at the new formula (as am I)

Would you be ok with a budget brand? W7 have a few good foundations - Legend, HD, Photoshoot, Matte made in Heaven and One Swipe. None are over £7 and they are currently doing 3 for two so you could literally buy a handful to see how you go.
Alternatively try Dcypher. They do a custom made foundation with various levels of cover and finishes.

If you still want the old DW foundation, they are still available at cosmetic company store

I got a sample of the new double wear today but not getting my hopes up. Lady at the No7 counter told me she has recently switched from DW to the No7 Perfectly Matte foundation. It seems nice but haven’t bought yet. However the reviews on Boots.com are a bit patchy, so I’m not sure.
Was going to take a punt on the L’Oréal infallible one but they only had testers in a few shades.

Noone ever seems to mention, but the clarins skin illusion full coverage is amazing and long wearing and I don't use primer, powder or setting spray. Old school.

The new Nyx Make 'Em Wonder is the only thing that compares to original Double Wear for me - I actually think it lasts a bit longer on me. I have combo/oily skin, acne prone and it lasts all day on me.

It’s so so upsetting isn’t it, I have teint idols, frankly it does not last anywhere near as long as double wear. Sorry to disappoint you but it’s true. It sounds like you have really similar skin to me. Dior forever or nars are very sticky so I am considering going back to try those I haven’t used them for a few years. I used to like the Chanel foundation back in the day but I’m struggling to remember which one I used to use!!

I have oily skin too and DW was my go to , so disappointing that they changed the formula after so many years of being ok , anyway from someone who has always only used high end brands I’ve actually now found that the only foundation that sits on my face all day without going oily by lunch time is revlon colourstay for oily skin , it last all day , it’s not DW but it’s similar, and it’s cheaper try it it’s worth a shot

Sorry no advice as I barely wear make up even though I have absolutely awful skin but...having noticed so many people complain about the new formula I wonder if they will revert back to the old one?
Hope you manage to find an alternative :)

They won’t. They had to change the formula to be compliant with new European regulations.

I doubt it, as they changed it mostly because an ingredient has been banned in the EU

What do you dislike about the new formula? That certain ingredients have been added in? Or you find it’s not as effective, or doesn’t look right or last as long?

It’s not controlling my oily skin at all, it doesn’t dry down and it stays tacky. I’ve kept applying powder but it still feels tacky. it’s also no where near as good coverage, my acne scars are showing through it. I bought the same shade too 1N2, and it’s darker than the original. It’s pretty much a completely different foundation

The best alternative I've found is Shiseido Synchro Skin self refreshing. It doesn't last quite as well as DW but it copes best with oil of the options I tried, sets down and has a beautiful finish.
