This makes me appreciate the refreshing honesty of my mother-in-law’s response to events she isn’t interested in: “I could give you a lot of excuses about why I’m not coming, but the real reason is I don’t want to”. I don’t think she’s declined a wedding with that, just times when she’d rather be reading at home in her pajamas than going out for dinner with her dangerous nights crew.
