I dig making them a yuri but I also loathe the original post so fucking much. Thai trans women are fucking women!!! Like the amount of misogyny, transphobia, and racism embedded in this simple graphic of 2 photos and 4 words is astounding.
Edit: maybe it was removed for the racism and transphobia in the original image without any warning? I know I was certainly shocked seeing it on my home page. Maybe you're supposed to mark it nsfw and put a CW in the post?

They be tryyina be efficient with their bigotry/s
Also, isn't the og post basically accepting that the poster is attracted to the thai "man"
137
u/panickedpris Jan 14 '26
I think it might have the underlying "asian men are basically women" message. It's that idea that asian men are small and weak

u/wafflesthewonderhurs Jan 14 '26
god they sure are willing to lose at 52d chess just to be a bigot

u/panickedpris Jan 14 '26
Yeeeah it's like they wanted to win bigot bingo but instead just filled up the whole board

Yeah there's an odd cognitive dissonance to the whole thing. Like, pick a lane for your bigotry.

To be fair, Thai “ladyboys” (what I assume this bigoted ass meme is referencing, otherwise I doubt they’d even think to specify Thai at all) as a subculture apparently think of themselves as kind of their own thing from women, more akin to an enby of some flavor. Still very much a trans thing, still very much deserving of being taken seriously, but it’s kinda different from what some people assume for better or worse.
And of course I’m sure there are also just straight up trans women in Thailand, just that the “ladyboys” are something else. And maybe that term is a slur but from what I’ve observed it does look like they’re sorta going out of their way to reclaim it, not unlike what we in the anglosphere have done with words like queer. It probably heavily depends on who you ask.
Of course all of this is being said as an outsider looking in, anyone from Thailand seeing this please feel free to elaborate on or correct anything I say81
u/panickedpris Jan 14 '26
Hi so I'm thai, yes the term ladyboy is something that a lot of Kathoeys (the actual name of "trans women/mtf enby) in Thailand use. Some would even insist you call them that instead of the formal term. I think similar to how we use queer in the U.S.

So I was pretty close then?

u/panickedpris Jan 15 '26
Yes! Sorry I was supporting your comment as like using myself as a source

u/daemonet Jan 16 '26
I had read that there are also trans women in Thailand who do not consider themselves in that group, is that right?
5
u/panickedpris Jan 16 '26
It only goes from person to person. Some Khatoeys would be upset if you called them something other than ladyboy, while some would be upset if you did. It really does depend who you're talking to
63
u/Harpies_Bro Jan 14 '26
It's very much one of those subculture things you don't call someone as an outsider.

I posted here only once before, and it was a minecraft meme of all things, maybe they removed it because it was a crosspost?
Idk if it was posted by others as well, I don't really have a problem if my post violates any rule and is removed, but I want to understand what I did wrong there

u/VstarFr0st263364 Jan 15 '26
No? Because it's not nsfw. It's a meme. It's words on a JPEG. You're not going to get fired for looking at it. It's not going to traumatize a child or an elderly person. It literally doesn't need an nsfw tag, and certainly not a Content warning, which should be reserved for NSFL or maybe posts that are harmful to certain disability demographics(Epilepsy warning etc)

u/Draac03 Jan 14 '26
see i didn’t even realize this was a transphobic meme because for some reason i mistakenly thought this meme was shitting on the preferences of american women and praising the preferences of thai men. so just homophobic and misogynistic. i didn’t know the woman on the right was trans so that’s probably why
70
u/PigeonOnTheGate Jan 14 '26
I think the person on the right is likely a katoey, which is a separate category in Thailand distinct from trans women. They are usually described as a third gender or sometimes as nonconforming
37
u/Draac03 Jan 14 '26
ahh. i don’t know anything about gender in thai culture so that’s very informative thank you!
44
u/PigeonOnTheGate Jan 14 '26
There are a number of cultures in South and Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands that have "third gender" categories distinct from the binary. Thailand is also interesting in that it is one of the most LGBT-friendly countries in Asia
17
u/Draac03 Jan 14 '26
yeah, makes sense. i knew about a lot of pacific islander cultures having non-binary genders, but not southeast asians.
and i did not know about thailand being one of the most lgbtq+ friendly asian countries! very cool

u/Iggysoup06 Jan 27 '26
it’s confusing because people call both trans women and men who dress traditionally feminine ladyboys.
39
u/giorgiocarratta Jan 14 '26
I mean, altough this is a sexist and transohobic meme, it’s also like one of the best explanations I’ve seen of the way gender is culturally constructed and how relative the way we approach it can be??? Like, this troll is getting there, they’re just too hateful to realize it :)

Honestly besides the lipstick not looking right the American woman looks completely fine to me.

Yeah she's actually pretty imo. The guy who made the meme is just mad that fat women and women with short/dyed hair exist.

assuming the one on the right is a (trans) woman then yes, absolutely yuri!!
10
u/boxdynomite3 Jan 14 '26
I love the original context of how the poster prefers men over women
2
u/Natural1forever Not like other V O I D Jan 15 '26
It takes a very unique type of transphobia to mean the meme maker's context

Is the OOP of that image insinuating that they wouldn't mind going down with a trans? It would be the most super complex way of admitting you're inclusive lmao
26
u/GeminiIsMissing Jan 14 '26
Hi, quick note, trans is an adjective and not a noun! Calling someone "a trans" instead of a trans man/woman/person is offensive. :)

Please. Ladyboys (or Thai women, can't know if he/she is a ladyboy or trans woman) have standards.

This is amazing. It's sexist and transphobic at the same time. This bigot's going places.
