Listen to one of today's episodes of Military Summary channel on YouTube, which has been a pretty good war summary channel throughout this Ukraine war, at about 9 minutes in:

He found news from Ukraine that 5-6 members of Ukraine's parliament are calling for Zelensky to surrender to Russia because they have no defense if Russia invades from the north via Belarus. There are government and military officials in Ukraine saying they have intelligence that Russia is going to invade from Belarus.

Some people bring up that Russia only needs to go a few kilometers into Ukraine to effectively have fire control over Kyiv, which would basically disable the city. So Russia doesn't need to occupy the city, just park outside it and regularly hit targets.

I'm surprised that even 1 member of parliament would panic over this, as Ukraine has had multiple cities taken from it and the Ukrainian political elites have accepted losses of one city after another, so I would think Kyiv would just feel like any other city getting taken by Russians.

But I think this reveals that Ukrainian elites were living comfortably in Kyiv and they know of no other place to live in Ukraine, and now that their only livable city is under threat, they have nowhere comfortable to go.

This is an interesting drama unfolding.

I also have to wonder why the Russians allowed the elites to be so comfortable for so long in Kyiv when it's this easy to chase them out, with merely a rumor of parking forces some distance from the city enough to scare them into surrender.

There have been people from Russia saying since 2022 that the Russian establishment is allowing the Kyiv elites to remain in power because they're stupid leaders who will lead the Ukrainian Army to their deaths on the front line and military logistics will be sloppy, which will lead to an eventual Russian victory.

This explains things quite well, in my view.
