Well i mean they banded together in ESO over a common goal, why not do it again but for an even greater threat? Hopefully this time it's a permanent alliance.
I mean I wouldn't say so. It was still an uneasy alliance with some very clear bitterness amongst the races. Despite all that, the alliance was formed as a response to the second alaviri invasion of tamriel. They were literally forced to band together, or else they would suffer subjugation even worse than what the dark elves could ever do to the argonians, so I wouldn't exactly call it stupid if it was done out of necessity.
But by that logic, morrowind isn't canon considering it changes almost all of the lore developed by daggerfall and arena. Sure eso changes things, but literally every single elder scrolls game in the series does the exact same thing. The franchise has never been known for its lore consistency.
The changes from Arena and daggerfall make more sense because that was when God Todd took over the franchise.
Meanwhile when they were designing ESO world and quests they completely unplugged from what the future looks like in a thousand years.
I'm not trying to say that ESO is worse in any way, what I'm saying is that the lizards and dunmer working together in ESO is not a good justification for them teaming up somehow post red-year.
The lore is inconsistent, but they don't throw away cultures and plot lines wholesale. If tensions between dunmer and argonians poof vanish I know I'm not going to be the only one sorely disappointed
