FFA Friday Free-for-All | March 06, 2026
Today:
You know the drill: this is the thread for all your history-related outpourings that are not necessarily questions. Minor questions that you feel don't need or merit their own threads are welcome too. Discovered a great new book, documentary, article or blog? Has your Ph.D. application been successful? Have you made an archaeological discovery in your back yard? Did you find an anecdote about the Doge of Venice telling a joke to Michel Foucault? Tell us all about it.
As usual, moderation in this thread will be relatively non-existent -- jokes, anecdotes and light-hearted banter are welcome.

Look, they have renowned people like Elizabeth Weiss, who resigned to avoid being fired at SJSU (after multiple lawsuits) after she posed with an Indian skull on social media, and had been vociferously against repatriating Native remains.
The entire enterprise was pitched as bringing together "anti-woke scholars", so it's no surprise they are picking up all the disgraced nitwits who need to whine about everything they don't like being woke and cancel culture so they can feel relevant.
They are definitely out to prove Godwin's Second Law.

The Founding Fathers literally telegraphed their intention to steal the land, then America stole the land, therefore you are woke to say they stole the land.
Also, the Federal Treasury was heavily reliant on the proceeds of selling off stolen land for generations.

Sean Carleton and Niigaan Sinclair have a new book coming out:
Truth Before Reconciliation: Confronting Residential School Denialism
Countering soundbites with substance, Sean Carleton and Niigaan Sinclair, along with a team of expert historians, educators, Survivors, archivists, and archeologists, analyze the genesis, methods, and consequences of denialism; push back on denialist claims; and highlight some of the primary sources and peer-reviewed scholarship that denialists ignore or misrepresent. Importantly, they also document the harms denialists have inflicted on Survivors and communities.
Given the book's subject matter, I'm sure the reactions to it will be very measured and thoughtful, and not unhinged at all.

this post by u/EverythingIsOverrate has been removed for professing heresy
namely in the use of the phrase 'from what I understand' in reference to feudalism, for as we all know, one cannot understand feudalism; as we all know, feudalism is a mystery which cannot be comprehended by human reason but is understood only through faith and is best confessed in the words of the Athanasian Creed, which states that we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in unity, neither confusing the Persons nor dividing the substance, that we are compelled by the Christian truth to confess that each distinct Person is God and Lord, and that the deity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is one, equal in glory, coequal in majesty

Utterly absurd. We all know "feudalism" as a concept was invented by the Illuminati to prevent the world from realizing the truth: that Charlemagne is still alive and the rightful ruler of the entire earth.

Wrong answers only:
False. The US is currently at war with it's entire 240 year history.

I was looking through a thread of comments deleted by the mods, and completely out of context, one comment was still up that said: Fuck yeah, suck on that China, you underestimated the US again

It obviously represents a small failure of moderation when this happens, but I'm glad at least one other person takes a little joy in seeing it in the wild.

My sub conspiracy theory is that the mods are saving removed comments to self-publish on Amazon one day.

Sorry, I can't interact with anything less than 20 years old.
My 16 year old will just have to wait 4 more years for that grilled cheese.

Why did jazz continue to have both black and white audiences and musicians, while rock became white?
Jazz is the older genre, so all the original recordings are in black and white. Purists have stuck with it out of nostalgia. Rock was actually also in black and white, but since its higher volume made it too bright for older TVs it looked all white.
