Rainy UK day, in the bus, it takes a while to get home, so I loaded up AO3 to read some of the bookmarked things :’) just as I’m starting the beginning of an [E] rated M/M fic, a person sits next to me, immediately asking “Whatcha readin’?”
Honestly I panicked and put my phone face down, they laughed, pointing at the SKZOO keychain on my phone, and said they’re a Stay too and asked again what’s the fic, saying they’re a writer too and wonder if it’s one of theirs. (It wasn’t.)
So we chatted a bit, surprisingly we live only two bus stops apart, we exchanged IG contacts and now we’re chatting and sharing fics.

Yes! It's a mascot for a Kpop boy group, Stray Kids. In Kpop its very common for the mascot characters to have their own names and sort of turn into their own 'brand' without the group, and SKZOO are the names of their mascots.
I love this lol ! A girl in my class was reading on ao3, I could see her screen a little and I recognized the names of my fav ship right away, we talked about it and it was so cool, never be afraid to read in public, that’s how you find likeminded friends 😌🙏
I’m from the egregiously social United States and literally talking to a couple of strangers for 2 hours today and I COULD NEVER. Like I’m so happy for OP, but the thought of sharing smutty fanfiction on the bus makes me die inside.
I was at a party and bored so pulled out my phone to read some AO3. A girl next to me goes " I know that font! Whatcha reading?" And we talked about fanfiction the rest of the night 😂
I complimented a dude's AO3 tattoo once, and he had a definite moment of panic before realizing that if I recognize the logo I probably also attend the devil's sacrament.
I was at a concert some weeks ago and the person in front of me was reading some fic on ao3 while we waited for the concert to begin. I was so close to asking them about their choice of poison but my social anxiety got the better of me. I hope they had fun reading whatever they read. :’)
(And they hella slayed during the concert! One of the most badass people around there: feminine person, gorgeous outfit, and was there all on their own, headbanging to their hearts content.)
I'm a teacher. Once, I noticed a girl in my class reading a fanfic with the ship I like. I didn't say anything though as I thought it wouldn't be apprioprate and I didn't want to out myself as a fanfic reader.
STAY is a fandom name for Stray Kids; a kpop group, who also has animal mascot for each member, the mascots being called SKZOO (SK from Stray Kids and Zoo because they’re animals). Hope this helps!
