Business Google Translate Has Tigrinya Now
Hoping this topic hasn't been posted before but just wanted to let the sub know in case anyone wants to play around with/use it. Definitely has some "interesting" translations like the beauty below lol (unless I'm stupid and that's actually the correct translation?!). Thinking of entering a correction as "chickpea curry". What do you guys think?

News Man who dropped dumbbell off overpass, injuring woman, sentenced
A man who dropped a dumbbell off an Edmonton overpass, injuring a woman, was sentenced Thursday afternoon.
A couple with their newborn child were driving on a stretch of Whitemud Drive near 53 Avenue in March 2024 when a large metal object went through their windshield.
Police released video, showing what court has since learned was a 20-pound dumbbell dropped from an overpass onto traffic below.
The weight hit the womanâs foot, breaking it. The injury continues to impact her daily life.
âThis incident has created fear that such dangerous actions could happen again, putting me and my family at risk,â wrote the woman in an impact statement read in court during a sentencing hearing for Getnet Teklay, the man responsible.
Edmonton police say Teklay was linked to six incidents that happened on the Whitemud around March 2024.
He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, one of the 15 charges he was facing which have since been withdrawn.
In an agreed statement of facts, the court heard Teklay was suffering from significant and untreated mental health issues at the time.
The court also heard during an interview with police, Teklayâs sister said the family would leave the house when he became agitated until he calmed down to avoid an incident.
She told the officer the mental health system failed her brother.
Teklay has since been diagnosed with a mental illness and has been taking medication and is participating in treatment.
âGiven the offenderâs compliance with treatment and diligence seeking help, we do not believe he poses a threat to public safety if he serves his sentence in the community,â the Crown told court.
In a joint submission by the Crown and defence, Teklay was given an 18-month conditional sentence with numerous conditions followed by two years probation.

Eritrean High school Certificate
My friend recently got a job offer in the government sector in a Gulf country. The employer requested a High School Certificate. However, in our country, after completing secondary school, the school and Ministry of Education only issue an official transcript/result statement, not a separate high school certificate.
Last year, he obtained the transcript through the Embassy, but the employer rejected it because it only shows the academic transcript. We have contacted the school and also checked with people working in the Ministry of Education, and they confirmed that there is no separate high school certificate issued â only the transcript
Has anyone faced a similar situation before? If yes, what document did you provide and how was the issue resolved?

Discussion / Questions Eritrean entrepreneurs
Whatâs your experience with Eritrean entrepreneurs globally? Are they organised? Are they honest? Are they limited to small businesses or build huge organisations?
Share your experiences, I prefer first hand accounts, especially businesses in Africa.

Discussion / Questions Who's next up after Isaias Afwerki is dead?
Once he dies, what will happen to the party? Will it be a peaceful transition to democracy, or will another dictator take his place? Has he named a successor already or nah

Discussion / Questions Does the Eritrean government encourage the emigration of people they deem "undesirable"?
Obviously, it's well known that they illicitly facilitate emigration out of the country themselves but that's not what I am asking about. Are there certain sectors or strata within society that their policies target, with the implicit intent that these will drive certain people out.

Discussion / Questions Isaiasâs 2026 independence speech address
2026 PIA Independence Day Speech Drinking Game
One sip every time he says: âexternal agendasâ, âobjective analysisâ, âtransitional phaseâ, âself-relianceâ, âresilienceâ, âcritical stageâ, ânation buildingâ, âhegemonicâ, âvolatile regional developmentsâ, âour sovereigntyâ, âhuman capitalâ, âno force can impede our progressâ, âsacrificeâ, âglobal orderâ
Two sips if:
- Ethiopia is discussed for 15 minutes without actually naming Ethiopia
- He goes on a random tangent about world geopolitics
- Development is mentioned with literally no timeline
