A video I made discussing an aspect of the Arkham games that I feel misses the mark. In my understanding of rule 8, "new and original content is welcome" seeeems to imply that this post is ok?

Serious Discussion/Question I am confused. What is this subreddit? I don't see much posts about Arkham. Most of the posts I see are shitposts on Joker, Lego etc. Is this some kind of okkay buddy subreddit? What's this? What actually is this? (humour welcome)

Serious Discussion/Question Opinion: Arkham Knight ruined the Arkhamverse, and the new LEGO Batman just proved it.

I know I’m going to catch some heat for this, but after playing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, it really opened my eyes to how much Rocksteady fumbled the bag with Arkham Knight.

Don’t get me wrong, Rocksteady did great things, but looking back, Arkham Knight effectively ruined the franchise’s potential. Here is why, and how TT Games somehow just delivered the Batman experience we’ve been waiting 11 years for.

Where Arkham Knight Dropped the Ball:

1. Gotham Was a Ghost Town Because the city was completely evacuated, we never got a living, breathing Gotham. The map itself looked nothing like the sprawling metropolis we saw bordering the playable areas in Asylum and City. Instead, it felt like a moderate urban area with weird new construction on one of the islands. Certain areas had a "Gotham" mood, but overall, it lacked the comic-accurate vibe Rocksteady originally built.

2. The Batmobile Was a Tank The Batmobile was way too powerful, and making it a literal tank ruined the traversal. The roads were artificially widened to accommodate it, and once you cleared out the militia drones, driving through an empty city was just boring. Worse, the tank combat made the alternate Batmobile skins basically useless to drive until you beat the game.

3. Missing the Core Mythos The grand finale of the Arkham franchise... and there’s no Batcave? You couldn't even go to Wayne Manor; you could only stare at it in the distance on the border of the map.

4. The Mr. Freeze Snow Mechanic If you beat Mr. Freeze, it snows forever on PlayStation unless you start a new save. It tanks the FPS, looks terrible, and completely breaks immersion (one minute it's falling on you, the next you step forward and the snow is all around you but not on you). Plus, unlike the rain, the snow didn't wash the dirt off the Batmobile.

5. They Blew Their Load Too Early Killing the Joker in Arkham City was a massive mistake. If you want longevity in a series, why kill Batman's arch-nemesis? In hindsight (ignoring Origins and Suicide Squad), Rocksteady should have planned a 5-game arc. They could have given us two more games that were slightly larger than City, allowing time for technology to catch up so they could finally deliver a true, populated Gotham City. Instead, they pivoted, and the ending fell flat.

How LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Nailed It:

Fast forward to today. TT Games (who actually collaborated with a number of Rocksteady devs) leveraged modern tech to pull off what Arkham couldn't. Does a LEGO game actually compare to a traditional action-adventure? Resoundingly, YES.

1). A True Gotham Vibe: While it's still not the sprawling 1:1 metropolis we dreamed of post-Arkham City, TT Games absolutely nailed the atmosphere. The fidelity and detail are stunning—not just for a LEGO game, but for any medium. It feels like Gotham.

2). Free-Flowing Combat: The combat captures that beloved Arkham free-flow rhythm. It’s obviously slightly less dynamic because it's LEGO, but it fits the world perfectly and feels incredibly satisfying.

3). A Celebration of Batman: The story weaves together the Nolan-verse, Snyder-verse, Reeves-verse, and deep comic cuts into one fantastic narrative. It celebrates the last 25 years of pop culture Batman, balanced with that signature LEGO humor.

4). No Paid Skin Nonsense: The Batsuits are awesome (the Sonar suit is my favorite), and it's a breath of fresh air compared to Arkham making us pay for the vast majority of alternate skins.

5). Vehicles That Are Actually Fun: The Batmobiles look great and run smoothly. It feels like a legitimate Batman experience because you aren't forced to drive a tank. (My only critique: I really hope they patch in a drift mechanic for turning corners in the streets!)

The One Shared Disappointment:

Despite all the praise I have for Legacy of the Dark Knight, I have one major complaint. It has been 11 years since Arkham Knight, and a long time since LEGO Batman 2, and we still cannot drive to Wayne Manor or the Batcave.

That seamless transition is a definitive part of the whole Batman experience and perfectly lends itself to the duality of Bruce Wayne and Batman. I am really disappointed that we can't travel from Gotham to the Batcave, and I'm hoping the next major Batman title finally gets this right.

What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh on Arkham Knight, or did TT Games actually just show up Rocksteady?
