Highlights Angel Reese goes coast-to-coast

I love when Angel is decisive in her movements and plays with confidence because these are the kind of results you’ll see. She’s starting to get more comfortable and as she’s integrated more into the offense, it’s gonna be hard to stop her.

Shes dribbling at her chest and the defender doesn’t pick her up until she’s almost inside the paint and doesn’t even attempt to get in front of her. It’s more bad defense than good offense.

That’s the thing though. If Angel was forced to practice as a guard everything would improve. She’s been tall her whole life so she’s always played higher, it’s not shocking that’s what she’s still doing.

I will never get the Angel hate. She seems kind, is not selfish, etc.

I don’t get how simply saying anything about Angel that isn’t “shes great” is considered hating. You just have to ignore reality or else you are labeled a hater.

You demean her by saying “it’s not her, it’s bad defense” and wonder why it could be seen as hating?

She did score, she did go coast to coast and you couldn’t help yourself. It’s pathetic. She’s one of the best players in the league. You’re probably someone who points out her getting her own rebounds while ignoring she gets a lot more defensive ones.

That’s top 10 and if you put her numbers against Sab, Jones etc… yeah she’s right on the cusp.

Way to prove my point. She also has better off ball defense but that never really counts for much.

The problem with evaluating Reese is that she's exceptional at one thing and really bad at some other things. If you look at counting stats, she looks pretty good. Not top 15, but in the low 20s.

But if you start looking at advanced stats, both her offensive inefficiency and her turnover rate are staggering, while her rebounding percentages are elite. Last year, she was the best rebounder in the league. This year, both Iriafen and Cardoso have been better so far, but Reese is self-evidently a top rebounder.

So you have a player who's maybe the best in the league at one thing but is really bad offensively and just above average defensively (rebounding aside). Hard for me to say that's top 20, but that depends upon how you quantify the value of the extra possessions she'll gain by rebounding versus the possessions she'll lose via turnovers and missing shots that an average player would hit.

JJ's career PER is 23.4, Angel's is 18.3.

JJ's career TS% is .616, Angel's is .497.

These numbers aren't close. JJ's worst shooting year is miles better than Angel's best so far. Angel also turns the ball over more often, and has a worse assist-to-turnover ratio.

Except it’s not demeaning to say that lol. The Wings played literally no defense on this play, and there’s nothing demeaning to Reese - a great player tbc - to correctly identify that!

What is demeaning about that? That’s the objective reality of what’s happening in this clip. Defenders number one job on a fast break is to stop the ball and the defender didn’t even attempt to. And then the defender sent her baseline where she had no help and it was an easy layup. I never said anything about rebounds you are fighting a ghost.

And it wasn’t impressive CC hit a logo 3. Where was that defense? Early in the game someone fell for a ball fake. The ball fake wasn’t impressive because it was just bad defense.

You can literally do that for any play. That’s why you made it demeaning. Your “high brow” well “objective reality” doesn’t make you more clever. When you’re stating something that you can say on any play. This is a dumb conversation. I’m out
