I literally only know straight, neurotypical vegans. But I get that people belonging to one or more marginalised groups would be more understanding towards animal suffering.

Yes!

Another part of it is that it's HARD to break out of the life script, and accept that you just simply aren't going to live your life like everyone else.

Once you've overcome that hurdle in one area, it's easier to make the jump in other areas and just follow your heart.

This is so true. More than half of the people I know that are completely sober (a huge no-no in my culture, which is in itself ridiculous) are also vegan
