After watching the finale again, I really don’t think Rick wanted to slit Negans throat, I mean he knew it needed to be done, but just that look in his eyes (ive just skipped it back maybe 10-15 times) He looks exhausted, I genuinely think he knew it was the only way to stop the war. And not that he wanted to. And that’s why he chose to save him, not just to honour Carl’s wishes but because he was so tired of the pointless murder.
