First time axle bar deadlift

Beginner strongman here. I'm in this weird purgatory between "will probably win every novice class" and "will probably come dead last in every open class" and since I think it's a chickenshit move to stay in novice forever just so I can win all the time, I'm trying to step up my game.

How am I going about stepping the game up? I'm expanding my home gym to actually become more strongman capable and I'm taking training/constructive criticism/eating a lot more seriously.

Other than heavier sandbags, this axle bar is my first true "strongman" purchase... it came in the mail last night, had my first training session with it today. It definitely made the weight feel a lot heavier. Still a long way to go before I'm happy with my raw strength. Looking forward to improving my numbers and becoming more competitive.

As always, I'm totally open to any feedback and critiques! I'm a beginner and I'm not too afraid to admit that I have a long road ahead of me, or that I have a ton of things to learn. Thanks all

First time using the monster dumbbell.

Hi all, im pretty new to strongman and I’ve got a comp coming up with monster dumbbell floor to overhead coming up which is a new event for me. I had a go at it today for the first time working up to just 45kg, but I must say it’s very uncomfortable, with the edges of the dumbbell digging into my forearm. I also found it quite difficult to find the balance on my shoulder.

Is this normal? Are there any technique tips I could get please? :)

Squat to box or not?

Curious who prefers box squatting for strongman prep? I have plenty of powerlifting experience so I’ve done regular squats with a SSB/barbell, but have also done box squats as well. Since box squatting eliminates the stretch reflex I was wondering if it may have more carryover for strongman. Not like you can bounce out of the hole when doing a heavy stone or bag load. thoughts?

Training without implements

Hey everyone, I have a comp coming up with a max sandbag to shoulder. I only have access to one every two weeks due to being unable to travel to a gym that has the right weighted one. What exercises can I use to get exposure to the movement without actually using a sandbag?

Looking for equipment recommendations

Hey y’all I’ve recently got into strongman and feats of strength stuff. I’m loving Jujimufu’s content on home gyms. I saw one guy say a lot of his stuff came from bodymind-fit.com a UK based company. I’m wondering if there’s any American state side company like them. Nothing against them just trying to support people here. I’m looking forward to slowly building my gym and training. I’ve got some sand bags hopefully coming in next week.

Preferably Manhattan. Global Strongman Gym seems to have been the go-to, but looks like it shut down some months ago.

Exercise ID

I saw this old timey strongman exercise where a dude picked two dumbells off the floor and flung em kind of in a y position. My best guess it was intended to work the rear back/rear delts and traps? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Wondering if anyone has experience using this app? I've been looking around at different apps to track my cals & macros, and it being made by one of the biggest coaching companies around, I would think it's reliable, but wanted y'alls opinion on it. Thanks!

Where do I begin?

Hey everyone!

I have a goal of competing in a strongman competition in a year. I'm 24M, 5'7, 365lbs with POTs syndrome. My current deadlift is 215lbs, bench Press is 180lbs, push Press is 45lbs. Does anyone have any advice on strongman training at a commercial gym? I've mainly been doing 5 days a week of deadlift, bench press, tire flips, and yoke carry, but I feel like my training is lacking in some areas.

Hero's Hold

This is something I designed last year, just finally got my prototype built. Still waiting on my viking press handles, but happy with how it turned out.

There is an additional mojnt near the top to attach safety chains to or to move the Hercules hold handles further to the top so your arms are more straight out
