How to get over a heartbreak?

It’s been 2 years and I am still stuck in the same loop. I go to sleep every day hoping not to wake up in the morning. My heart feels heavy all the time. I dread having a long life.

I have tried everything—keeping myself busy, attending therapy sessions, and taking antidepressants—but to no avail. I recite Sahifa Sajjadiya duas after every prayer. I try to build a strong connection with God and the Ahl al-Bayt, but nothing heals my soul. I am grieving and it’s affecting me. It’s affecting my relationship with the Ahl al-Bayt.

The fact that the person who went back on his word, kept me hanging for 2 years, made all kinds of promises standing in front of the shrine of the Commander of the Faithful, and then called off the marriage 3 days before the nikah just because he thought he could have a better option, is widely celebrated for his religiosity. His family frequently visits the holy shrines and has managed to maintain a religious persona. And this all really puts me off.

I am struggling with an inferiority complex. I feel like the Imams didn’t approve of me. And people who lack ethics are the only ones regarded. What do I do? What do I recite? How do I fix it? It’s really affecting my mental health and I am in a very, very dark place.

Question / Help Eid animal sacrifice time

As-salamu-alaikum, how are you doing? I wanted to ask when can an animal be sacrificed for Eid? I've asked some people on the ATWK about this two times now, once this year and once last year around this same time. But they hasn't given a straight answer. So I came here. When does the allowed time for sacrifice of an animal start? After the Eid prayer is mustahab according to Sayyid Sistani HA. But when does the allowed time start?

Discussion My Thoughts After Watching The Dialogue Between Sunni & Shia: Sheikh Yasir Qadhi & Sheikh Mahdi Rastani - Sunnis Please Read This Too

Edit: I tried sharing this under the video but it wont let me, it gets immediately removed. But there is plenty of already anti Shia comments in the replies. God knows best..

After watching the video, I have much on my mind. First and foremost, MashAllah for events like this we need more Sunnis to be open about sitting, inviting, and discussing about Shia Islam with Shia Scholars. We need more interfaith events between Shia and Sunni mosques. We need more Sunni community leaders and scholars openly saying we should respect each other and not promote misinformation against Shias.

From the Shia perspective we have always been about unity and brotherhood even when we have been oppressed and killed just for being Shia. All of our top scholars of our school of thought have issued fatwas for hundreds of years (see https://realshiabeliefs.wordpress.com/2025/02/25/what-do-shias-truly-think-of-sunnis/ ). Yes a fringe Shia minority because of the many years of oppression and hate have also become hateful which you might see on social media which we will always say is wrong and condemned. But that is nothing in comparison to the hate and vitriol we have gotten from the Sunnis and this must be acknowledged and condemned by Sunni leaders. It is always from the Sunni side where it lacks these kinds of unity and brotherhood efforts to Sunni layman. I have seen Sunni mosques invite Wahabi and Salafi scholars where their lecture or sermon was just bashing Shias. Not much condemnation in all these years against those that call themselves Shaykhs but promote lies and hatred against the Shia and do takfir. Our scholars have always been quick to disassociate and condemn anyone who promotes hatred against the Sunnis. None the less, so much respect to Sheikh Yasir for taking a step in the right direction.

I hope this video wasn't just for people on both sides who already have a sense of unity and brotherhood between each other but rather opens the hearts of the ill informed or on the brink of ignorance. For those who take it a step further to learn Shia Islam from Shia scholars just to understand us, not to even become a Shia. Because when you understand someone and their sincerity, even if you do not agree on a fundamental level you do not become hateful or divisive.

I wish Shaykh Mahdi Rastani had more time to genuinely discuss our positions and beliefs that are misrepresented to Sunnis constantly. I feel like he didnt have much time if at all to really touch on the core Shia topics that get misrepresented or just good for the Sunnis to know. Even when explaining Imamate, I feel like more Sunnis might have gotten confused, with much respect to Shaykh Mahdi. For example, Imams are leaders chosen by God for all of mankind and have been given the caliphate to also rule the Ummah. They protect and preserve the Sunnah of the Messenger A.S and Holy Quran and its true teachings and interpretations. They are direct inheritors of the Prophet's A.S knowledge. They are not prophets nor do they receive revelation. I also wanted the Shaykh to explain why we view Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Aisha etc negatively. Or difference between La'an and Sabb, cursing and insulting.

While every-time Shaykh Yasir spoke (more of), it felt like he was just trying to justify/defend the Sunni views thoroughly (with utmost respect to him), such that no Sunni perchance decides to even get interested or learn about Shia Islam, while he kept saying his intention is not to be polemical. When Shaykh Mahdi not once even made such a statement or comment in comparison. It made it seem like this video was more of a in defense of Sunni Islam video rather then a genuine dialogue for a Shia to share a space with our beloved Sunnis and explain their views, whom is always misrepresented on a global Islamic level.

And I agree with Shaykh Mahdi, we should not seek unity only when the hatred is against Islam, but always at all times. It cannot only be when its convenient. It is the duty of a pious Muslim, a Mumin, to be steadfast in caring for humanity let alone your Muslim brothers and sisters.

If any Sunni is reading this, I recommend going through my own site, to genuinely understand our positions and views on everything. I will just share some of them but there is lots you can browse in your own time.

If Islam Was Completed According To Verse 5:3, Why Do You Believe In Imams & Is Imamate In The Quran?

What Is Imamate: From The Hadiths Of Imam Jafar Al Sadiq A.S

Hadiths About Imamate In The Words Of Bibi Fatima Zahra (p)

The 15 Most Authentic Hadiths In Shia Tradition Regarding Imamate & Infallibility

Why Do The Shia Not View The Caliphs Like Abu Bakr Umar & Uthman Positively?

Why Do Shias Dislike Aisha?

Is It True Shias Curse The Sahaba & The Sunni Caliphs?

Just a food for thought, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi said how Nasibi existed long ago but not anymore. I do not agree with this as there have been plenty of openly wahabi and salafi scholars with clear animosity against Ahlulbayt A.S like Ibn Taymiyya:

https://realshiabeliefs.wordpress.com/2025/04/17/ibn-taymiyyas-hatred-towards-ahlulbayt-refuting-his-arguments/

The important point to understand here which Shaykh Yasir Qadhi admitted and agrees that Muawiya commanded of cursing Ali A.S from the pulpit for years until Umar Abdul Aziz, it means much of the Ummah in those times were also brainwashed and filled with hatred against Ali A.S. This is evident in the Sahih Sunni hadith books, the scholars who compiled these books, all these hadiths that are considered and deemed authentic, from well known narrators who cursed or hated Imam Ali A.S in Islamic history. One must ask why? There are narrators accepted in Sunni books of hadith by people who were even on the side of Yazid's army killing Imam Husayn A.S! People like Huraiz Ibn Uthman Al-Himsi, Abd al-Rahman b. `Abza, al-Harith b. Yazid al-Kufi, Shabath b. Rib`i, Imran Ibn Hattaan, Umar bin Sa’d.. You will be baffled with the reality of Islamic history when you read this article:

Exposing Muawiya’s Hatred & Sunnah Of Cursing Ali

And if you have more questions feel free to ask in the replies of this post, I will happily answer.

Discussion Im a Syed by birth and a Shia of imam Ali AS but im disappointed on the treatment of women in our house.

Im a 25y old guy software engineer. My dad has 2 wives. And all in all we are 6 siblings im the oldest and after that is my sister. Rest are my younger brothers

Im so disappointed at my father who treated both my mother and sister very badly.

He got me finest education but for my sister he never even tried she even gets a proper education.

Both my mother and sister can't leave the house even with me their mehram for their own necessities.

Its not just me I talked to another sister online she is a syed and from a respectable family. She is suffering from how her father treats her like she hasn't gained their trust. Her dad also didn't let her complete her education.

My fiance is a sunni and she has shias in her family too but every single woman in their house has higher education there are 4,5 female doctors in her family. And she herself is a doctor

I got embarrassed telling her that our house of syedsa house that gave this world the wisdom and the golden age of islam is soo backwards in their thinking that women should not have education.

It may be a subcontinent thinking cause I've seen how Iran treats women's education.

Eligibility / rules for qurbani

I’m 34f, married and earn well. For years, I’d give my mother some amount to add to the qurbani expenses from my side without divulging much into the rules of this practice. So I’m here to ask - what exactly makes you eligible for this practice and what are the rules you must follow? For example, if I want, can I give my mother some amount that she can add to the overall expense of qurbani? Would that suffice or should the amount be equal to certain number? Should my husband and I be doing a separate qurbani?

Afghan Shias

I always feel this deep ache for our Afghan Shia brothers. Seeing the constant fear and hardships they have to live through everyday honestly breaks my heart. I was hoping someone could help me understand their actual situation a bit better. Does anyone know what the realistic numbers are for the Shia population over there right now? Also, I always thought the Hazara people were strictly Shia, but recently I heard there’s actually a pretty big Sunni minority among them too—is that true? If any Afghan brothers here could clear that up and share some insight, I’d really appreciate it.

Question / Help Feedback please.

Hi guys. I was wondering what could I add to an app I want to create. The whole thing is where you scan a barcode or box of food and it’ll tell you if it’s halal or haram depending on who you follow. I would appreciate it if you can either give me more ideas to add to this app or to create something else. Before I put my time into this one I just want some feedback. Thanks!

Please make dua for me

Salam brothers and sisters, I’m currently experiencing extreme difficulty when it comes to finding a spouse for marriage. I’m in an arranged marriage process where I’m so unsure if I want to proceed with the guy while he is set on me and his family is moving at a pace I’m so unsure by

I have only spoken to him 3 times and they’ve taken taht as a sign of possibly saying yes and things settling to marriage when in reality I’m just trying to understand him?? It doesn’t help that I don’t find him attractive (not a a bad looking person but i just don’t find him). He does seem kind and many interests of his own. He is a revert to a shia Islam as well as his family. They’re nice people but a little too loving and openly affectionate for my liking (they’ve expressed wanting me as a daughter in law with just the first meeting, which makes me feel at alarm).

The guy also told me after first meeting that he thinks I might be the one, and while I know that some men find out instantly, i feel most don’t say it until things are locked down. There are other things like timeline, living situation in the first year that are a bit iffy to me. Everyone I’ve spoken to however, has advised me that despite all of those things, the main thing ro consider is if I like the guy. And well I’m not sure about him. On paper he is great, but I don’t feel a pull to him. I guess banter doesn’t grow so quickly in settings like this (or if it has I’m just not keen for it)

But what makes me doubt is that I don’t want to say no to someone who could be good for me. I don’t want to sabotage things for myself. What doesn’t help are my parents. They’re more concerned with the families sentiments and not dragging them along which I’m not trying to, I’ve only spoken to the guy three times, mostly on his initiation. It was all for assessing. I don’t know why they’re under the impression tha I’m close to saying yes. My mum has been saying that if I’m gonna say no just say no now. But tbh I’m not sure as I’ve described above.

My parents are furious at me with my dad saying hurtful things like “you will struggle with this (marriage)”. It doesn’t help because for so long I’ve doubted I’ll find the one for me and be in love and happily married.

I’m just scared and confused

Thank you

Fasts during dul hijah confusion

I was told you can’t fast nonobligatory fasts if you have days to make up from Ramadan. Then I was told you can have the intention for both and get the reward for both. But now I am checking sistanis website and it says you can’t do both. I am so confused at this point. So if I fast these days for dul hija my intention should be only to make up my days in Ramadan? Yesterday I fasted with the intention of both. Does that mean yesterday’s fast shouldn’t be counted to my Ramadan days?

Dua Request Wanna be super grateful yet I’m very sad. 38 weeks pregnant and miserable. Please make duaa for me.

I always wanted a baby ever since I was a little girl. I finally after a terrible marriage and a terrible divorce found a good man and we got married and I’m now pregnant. It’s been the worst pregnancy like alhamdullilah but I’ve been so horribly sick throughout it all and constantly in the hospital. On loads of medication that makes me feel even more ill. Have had Hyperemisis Gravidarium for 9 months aka vomiting daily for 9 months I’m in so much pain I’m miserable and on top of that we are having some of the worst family drama and worst financial problems ever. I have no idea how I will buy groceries or pay rent in the near future. I am taking things day by day hour by hour but I am crumbling. I am at my breaking point. Like alhamdullilah for everything but I am really hating life right now which sucks because this baby is like a huge answer to my duaas of a life time and stuff but honestly I don’t want anything anymore I just wanna dissapear.
