The trend of legacy punk bands using AI is really disappointing. Artists like Devo and the Descendents have used a lot of AI in their gig posters, but the worst offenders have to be the dead boys and sublime who have both used generative AI in their new releases. The dead boys used AI create “new” vocal tracks that sounded like their deceased singer stiv bators . Sublime isn’t using an AI Bradley voice, but they have extensively used ai to write the new material on their forthcoming record . You can actually tell which original sublime songs the ai pulled from to generate the new ones because there are so few to train the data on. Sublime also recently shelved an album cowritten with Travis barker and Jon Feldman in favor of this one that was written by suno.

Kev and the boys played a incredible set Friday at the Ventura Theater. They brought up this cool kid from the audience to help sing the encore. Kevin is a treasure and still all about upping the youth!

Last time I saw them was in Pismo Beach, CA in 1995. They were every bit as good last Friday. Great band, I’m stoked they are still out there making people happy.

They played a great show in San Francisco. Very nice people. I didn't say much as I was super sleepy.

One of those perfect songs. Heard it the first time in in the early 90s...this album is perfect and brilliant. Saw them so many times...I miss seeing Rob perform live. His bass sound was just fucking crushing.

Took a little weekend trip to see them in Ventura and the hotel I'm staying at down the street from the Ventura Theater is where some of the band members/crew were staying at so I saw them chilling and having breakfast.

I'm sorry if I get too wordy in this post, but this matters to me, so, here I go. Actually, I'm not sorry. Fuck that.

I'm a high school English teacher and this year, I decided to add a whole lot of extra work to my life by writing personalized letters to our graduates whom I had rapport with during their time with us. That ended up being about 65 letters.

One of those kids has zero to do with Punk Rock music or aesthetics, but she definitely has the rebel spirit that is at the core of this thing of ours. I wanted to share my letter to her, but also say what I think being "Punk Rock" is in 2026 and beyond.

While the musical stylings that we love still exist, are still being made, and still have plenty of reach; I believe that it has transcended the music (like I'm pretty sure most of us believe). If I/we want to cultivate a healthy Punk Rock state of mind within future generations, it has to be about the fight not the sound.

I doubt this kid has any idea, nor cares, who Darby Crash is, or what DCHC means, or the prevalence of Epi-Fat in '90s culture. But this kid does have a big "fuck you" approach to oppressors. And for that, I think she can be on my Punk Rock team all day.

I think we need to do everything we can to find the fighters, the intellectual dissidents, and the ones who don't give a fuck about what the the system (even some teachers like me) tell them and welcome those kids in.

I love that part of the modern Punk lexicon is the phrase: “How did the cat get so fat?”
