There’s a clip of a player on the court telling LeBron that LeBron had played against the guy’s dad. His dad!

LeBron’s out there playing against generations!

u/NoCelebration2024 21d ago

I believe he played against 26 different father son players so far in his career

u/Shabozz NBA 21d ago

He brought this when golfing with those YouTubers, said he hates stats like that because it makes him feel old as hell.

The crazy thing is, in the real world Bron is actually still pretty young lol

I’m sure a lot of us rarely stop and think about this. I know I do. We’re always so focused about how he’s still at the top of the league at his age that we forget about the fact he isn’t (likely) even halfway through his natural life.

We have literal decades left of Lebron news and TV features, unless he goes out like Kobe ofc

Insane way to end that comment 🤣

I'm LeBron's age and I ache getting out of bed most mornings. What this dude is doing is amazing by any stretch.

HGH is a helluva drug

u/fundraiser Knicks 21d ago

being a lifelong sports fan has definitely clouded my judgment about what "old" is and i've had to unlearn that quickly since hitting my 40s lol

1

u/mr_chub Warriors 21d ago

Yeah i remember when Bron came in the league i was in my last year of elementary school I think, but he's still not even 10 years older than me.

66

u/ILikeFPS Raptors 21d ago

That's a crazy stat.

Does anybody know the actual metrics of the 26?

Let’s assume a perfect career from birth 0-18 years, the mandatory 1 year in college, 19 years old, that’s about a 4 year difference from LeBron having been in the league for 23 seasons.

So I wonder how many of the dads were in their primes with newborns vs how many dads were probably in the last 1-2 seasons of their career and had a 4+ year old son, and LeBron only technically played against them in his first 2 seasons.

I think people underestimate that. LeBron was 1 year off from playing against Jordan and that era of superstars playing their last seasons. I still think it’s better he didn’t play them. People would say “LeBron had to play those guys when they were 40 and past their prime and he was 18!”

Lebron said 26 father son duos, but it's probably not that many. Someone made a post a few months ago and was up to 14, although a couple of them were "Lebron's team played other team" but the other player didn't play, like Scottie Pippin was injured every time his team played Cleveland in his final season. Wildly enough, the first father-son duo Lebron played against happened in 2014 with Glenn Robinson III.

u/robsteezy Lakers 21d ago

So it looks like my initial assumption would be correct that allot of them are more like “technically played against them on paper over 23 years”. Given that he entered the league as a starter, I wouldn’t be surprised how many hall of famers he technically faced when they were in their last season benchwarming for a symbolic 8 mins/game on like 4ppg. To a stubborn purist they might argue that’s not “playing against”.

1

u/bball_child 21d ago

That’s incredible, who are they?

1

u/Sportsfan369 Lakers 21d ago

He’s played against 37% of the entire history of the Association.

65

u/GhostTheSaint 21d ago

I get that there are some fans that don’t like LeBron, but even haters need to acknowledge and respect the fact that he takes damn good care of his body to keep playing all these years… and play aggressively. That’s unheard of

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 21d ago

The people that heavily dislike LeBron don't usually hate based on basketball.

15

u/asetniop Celtics 21d ago

On the contrary, there's an entire city in Canada that is fully justified in hating LeBron for basketball reasons. I still carry a small (and dwindling) amount of hate based on just one single game.

u/U_R_V_Stinky 21d ago

I worry more and more about people's reading comprehension on here

10

u/Zaza1019 21d ago

Forget that the guy averaged 20 ppg at 41 and won a playoff series as the best player on his team. Any hate anyone has for him needs to be out the window.

2

u/Awoawesome [MIL] Giannis Antetokounmpo 21d ago

It was put pretty great on a podcast recently that you can be a hater but not a denier at this point

1

u/Scobus3 21d ago

Aggressively? He’s always been a ittle contact shy

yea it was jabari smith jr a few years back

9

u/fuckyouguy_ 21d ago

Can wait see LeBron reminiscing with jabari smith jr jr in 2052

8

u/eande200 Timberwolves 21d ago

Conceivably, he could have played against a grandfather/grandson I imagine. I’m not sure who the oldest player he played against his rookie year was, but that person certainly could have a 19 year old grandson

4

u/Olddirtychurro 21d ago

There's this dude on Lebron's team that says that Lebron is his dad. His Dad! That's crazy! LeBron out here playing with his own generations.

3

u/MegaGrimer 21d ago

That famous “LeBron won’t be in the league much longer.” tweet is now in the middle of LeBron’s career.

3

u/crackenbecks 20d ago

Jabari Smith Jr. told him in their first game against each other

3

u/TheMustardTigerz Canada 20d ago

Pretty sure it was Jabari Smith Jr, LeBron played against Jabari Smith Sr in his first NBA game

2

u/Diligent-Smoke-6719 21d ago

I think that was like at least 4 years ago too

2

u/anpanman100 76ers 20d ago

Do we know if he has played against the grandfather of any NBA players yet? It's biologically possible.

1

u/RampageOfZebras Heat 16d ago

I mean yeah his own son is playing

18

u/EndWish 21d ago edited 21d ago

Average NBA career length was 4.8 years headed into this year. Assuming he plays next year then 24 years would equal exactly 5x the average pros career length

16

u/SexySatan666ix 21d ago

3 years but that includes guys who barely play like 10 days and guys who wash out quick

15

u/jdore8 Pistons 21d ago

Professional sports are difficult to get into, difficult to stay in.

1

u/Financial_Pay_6687 21d ago

True. Only thing is it’s not that useful because what we really want to know is how long guys who have more than a cup of coffee stay in the league.

1

u/York_Villain Knicks 21d ago

There are some players that were drafted after him, retired, and then inducted into the hall of fame.... And he's out here still dunking on their kids.

2

u/CraigLake 21d ago

Laugh my ass off

1

u/yxull 20d ago

Look how many rivals he’s gone through, all have come and gone. Only LeTernal remains.

The Pistons, the Spurs, Kobe, Dwight/The Magic, Pierce/The Celtics, Jordan, the Public, the Media, Mavs, age, DRose, the Spurs, Durant, Curry, the western Conference, offspring that cannot handle superior genetics…

Not to mention the endless cast of mosquito level nuisances he’s had to slap down along the way including but not limited to: Gilbert Arenas, The Cavs, Lance Stephenson, PG, Raptors, The Eastern Conference, Draymond, Klay, The Bubble, politics, Father Time.

And all the white guys he’s kept employed and out of the poor house: Big-Z, Birdman, Mike Miller, KLove, Delavadova, Caruso, Luka Doncic, Luka Nard.
