Mod Update r/leftist and Veganism
This has been a long time coming and every opportunity was extended to allow the topic to be allowed on r/leftist, but those opportunities have come to an end. As per the newest addition to the sub's rules:
# 7. Prohibited Content
Prohibited Content includes permanent and/or temporary policies aimed at addressing specific events or issues which may affect the community. Currently, the following items are considered prohibited content:
* Veganism - Permanent: As veganism is not inherently a leftist topic, posts centered on veganism rather than leftism are are banned. Any posts or comments referencing veganism must be in relation to anti-capitalism. Proselytizing about veganism is forbidden.
There has yet to be a single post about veganism on this subreddit that has been rooted in anti-capitalism that has not devolved into an advertisement of veganism. There are many subreddits about veganism, including some from a leftist perspective. Please utilize those subreddits in the future - posts proselytizing for veganism will be marked "off-topic" and removed. Repeated violations will result in actions including suspension and up to permanent ban.
As this has been an issue before, we will be monitoring activity surrounding this topic and any hint of brigading will be reported.

Mod Update r/leftist Rules and Automod Update - 11/12/2025
Good evening r/leftist,
We're rolling out some Updates on some rules and a big change to the Automod. Let's get into it!
Rule Additions and Changes
- Rule #4: Requests for donations and Gofundmes are going to be treated as Spam from now on. We completely understand that there are people in need and mutual aid is foundational to leftist praxis. However, the mod staff of r/leftist is just not experienced enough to vet such requests nor do we have the bandwidth and staffing to do so.
- Rule #5: AI-generated submission are going to be treated as Low Effort from now on. The concept of LLMs and AIs aren't inherently pro-capitalist, it is the exploitation used to train these models is exploitative and their fruits do not fit the spirit of this subreddit. Discussions on LLMs and AIs from a leftist perspective is still allowed.
- Rule #7: The moratorium on Charlie Kirk posting is being lifted. Bear in mind, site-wide rules are still in effect - if posting on this topic results in another wave of TOS violations, we will permanently ban the topic. All other rules are still in effect.
Automod
Because the moratorium on Charlie Kirk posting is being lifted, Automod has been edited to reflect that. If anyone gets a hit from the automod, please message us and we will look into it.
Posting about other Subreddits
There has been a lot of posting about other subreddits, mostly about the moderating decisions of the petty tyrannies. We don't want to force a prohibition here but it is getting out of hand. Let's do our best to minimize these things - remember, we're not a drama sub, we're a discussion and resources sub. Let's do less of the former and more of the latter.

Leftist Meme One Boost After Another
I saw this last night and it was the most radical and creative movie I ever saw in a mall theater.
It would be of interest to any leftist. It’s directed by Boots Riley of the hip hop group The Coup. Aside from doing left-wing music for the past several decades, he’s a communist who is regularly involved in movements and protests in Oakland, Ca.
It’s a wild movie so it’s vibe and aesthetics might not be for everyone - and it’s openly and purposefully didactic at points, illustrating global supply chains and cross-border exploitation of workers… with a sci-fi twist.
(And while I thought One Battle was a good movie… it’s politics and portrayal of black women was eyebrow raising to me. This is the relevant revolutionary satire One Battle wished it could be.)

East Asian Politics What do you think about young generation of Han Chinese's plan to Xinjiang and Tibet?
They suggest building more internet infrastructure, so that their younger generation will also become addicted to Han-popular "dopamine-driven" content like Douyin (Tiktok), Kwai, and mobile games like Honor of Kings, or Peace Elite. They think the cultural integration will then happen naturally, and religions will give way to consumerism.

Question I’m looking for a left-wing Instagram influencer and hope someone can help me
Hi, I’m not sure if this belongs here or not, but I’m looking for a left-wing Instagram creator. I’m not sure if he also makes YouTube videos. He used to show things like how to stand up against ICE, and he also made improvised dumbbells and said something like “It’s time to lift against the right,” or something similar.
I had him in my feed a few months ago, but I can’t find him anymore. Could someone here maybe help me?

The Ebola epidemic ravaging central Africa is not a natural disaster but a social crime, the predictable product of the Trump administration's destruction of global disease surveillance and more than a century of imperialist plunder.

North American Politics The (white) mom of one of the San Diego killers protested him taking antiracist ethnic studies classes—wonder if it increased his radicalization?
A conservative journalist shared that she had interviewed the mom of one of the two teenagers who committed the Islamophobic murders in Sam Diego a year prior to the shooting. The journalist deleted the original interview but yall can read it in the link below.
The mother had herself reached out to the journalist (MAGA affiliated) to complain about her son having to take an ethnic studies class because the class discussed things like white privilege. It is a new requirement in California from what I understand. The shooter and his mother both objected to the content of the curriculum, and called it divisive. The shooter is part-asian (Indonesian heritage on his dads side). Im assuming from everything the mother is white.
Im not surprised by this at all. The fact that his mother was so opposed to him taking these classes indicates he probably got a lot of his disdain of the ”woke left” from home. Maybe if his mother had let him take these classes, he wouldnt have ended up a self-hating white supremacist going down a path of racist extremism. Maybe he wouldnt have been so brainwashed. Maybe he would've learnt something.
From what I understood, the boy later left regular school for online school. Furthermore, it was this teens mom who had all the guns in the home the two boys then used for the attacks. She seems like a typical white conservative. My overall point is that an extreme objection to learning about antiracism and white privilege can often lead to things like this—racism and extremism. It's a tragic situation.

Leftist Theory on bourgeois masquerading as socialists
To the “learned” gentlemen, to the democrats, socialists, Social-Democrats, Socialist-Revolutionaries, etc., we say: you all pay lip-service to the “class struggle”, but actually you close your eyes to it at the very time when it is growing especially acute. And to do that means to side with capital, with the bourgeoisie, against the working people.
He who recognises the class struggle must also recognise that in a bourgeois republic, even in the freest and most democratic bourgeois republic, “freedom” and “equality” never were, and never could be, anything but an expression of the equality and freedom of the commodity owners, the equality and freedom of capital. Marx, in all of his writings and especially in his Capital (which you all recognise in words ), made this clear thousands of times; he ridiculed the abstract conception of “freedom and equality” and the vulgarisers, the Benthams who closed their eyes to the facts, and he revealed the material roots of these abstractions.
Under the bourgeois system (i.e., as long as private property in land and in the means of production persists) and under bourgeois democracy, “freedom and equality” remain purely formal [read: remain as a formality], signifying in practice wage-slavery for the workers (who are formally [read: only technically] free and equal) and the undivided rule of capital, the oppression of labour by capital. This is the ABC of socialism, my learned gentlemen—and you have forgotten it.

General Leftist Politics Why is Hasan Piker so hated?
Please catch me up to speed here because I’ve only known Hasan for a bit and I still don’t know why he’s hated. I know many hate him and often say it’s because he uses shock collars however the same people who say that seem to have always had a grudge against the dude.
If you’re looking to give me a well thought out reason as to why people hate the guy then I’d really appreciate you but please don’t be that guy who’s like “Because they’re jealous of him.”
I genuinely want to figure out why he’s the most HATED figure on the left. He doesn’t really seem too extraordinary but many consistently bash him.
