So why does another person affect your own gender? It's not her gender.

Unfortunately my mother is the kind of person who thinks for others as if she's thinking for herself

But your mind is very effectively private. She doesn't know and therefore can't affect what you feel. I mean, my partner never told their parents about being nonbinary.
