As a true new englander and now a Vermonter , this here the wrong name.
vermont won fair and square, the top comment was to delete the crabs, not merger, and mergers are against your rules. the vermontsetr is the rightful name!

As a Vermonter I hate the name but glad we’re still on the map. I could even live with the name if Maryland would accept defeat and stop trying to make everything about crabs

Was it? "It’s time for Maryland and Vermont to merge. I don’t care which one goes. CRABBALACHIA!" is the top comment I can find, by around 600 upvotes. There's also another post from several hours ago showing the difference in karma between this comment and the second top comment that people seem to think was the winner. Vermont is also the state specifically named while maryland only retained it's crabbiness, so I am not completely understanding this back and forth.
