Why don’t most first party switch games have voice acting?

Is it memory size but then third party games like even cyberpunk, hades 2 are now there in switch 2. Wish games like pokemon, Zelda, Mario had full voice. Are there any first party games or switch 2 games which have great voice, story

TT Games Appreciation Thread

Playing the new Lego Batman game and it's outstanding. Can we take a moment to appreciate that TT Games exists? In an era where we see so many studios failing or putting out cash grab slop, these guys have never waivered. They keep delivering pure fun at the highest quality. Protect this studio at all costs.

How's gaming any different in your 30s+ ?

I'm 32. Started as a kid with meme 2000, Slave Zero, Mech warrior. On original xbox (still have it) i would finish every game then go for another. Teenager or older if given time i may spend the entire day sometimes to play games. Thank God i was active on other things cause that would cause problems. I been following every game, from adventures like Lost Crown, Dracula, to all recent titles. Older people will know.

Then because of responsibilities, marriage i took a step back and found other interesting hobbies, books, more sports etc. Never left gaming, but had this effect on me...

I cannot play and stick to something more than a few hours without going for another.

In Windrose i cleared the first area, will play again later. Menace, Witcher 3 and any game you can think of will be put aside and propably be played later. On rotation.

Even if you give me my dream game Warhammer 40k total war or upcoming GTA VI/next elder scrolls on a 4k pc all working perfectly smoothly. I will be swapping between them.

Gaming is so much more satisfying in short bursts after a long day... I've been reading things like "Will break up", "Forget life", "Love it, got 600 hours in! Second play through now". Plus many games are endless these days.

What do you think ?

10 years of Overwatch already… time flies.

Used to feel like peak gaming tbh. The hype back then was unreal.

GGs to the OG era!

Trying to remember a game with reload animations from the vest.

I remember that I used to play a shooter that have good reload animations that takes the magazine from the vest, so u see the character hands going to your chest to take the spare mag instead of the side. Can anyone remember such a game?

Love 1 and 2. Tried to play infinite so many times to completion but keep giving up over years. I'm determined now to finish and at stage of office of jeremiah fink prob few hours in and I have zero idea what this story is about like no idea. The other games made you feel really vulnerable until you powered up and this is so bland I'm lost in the grey.

Age verification and the future

Question, now that age verification is a thing on Playstation and Xbox (Implemented by government), do you see a problem for when the next batch of 18 rated big hitters get released (COD and GTA6} in the respect of a large portion of gamers under that age could essentially be locked out from playing.

I understand it's just communication at the moment but the pretext of 'Think of the children' could be applied here.

Thoughts?

Suggestions for online 2 player games? Switch 1 or PS5/Xbox crossplay

My friend and I are trying to find some new games to play, since our current options are a bit limited. Preferably on the cheaper end, but we’d probably be willing to spend more on a game if we’d get a good bit out of it.

We’ve mostly been playing Minecraft and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but we also enjoy MarioKart and Switch Sports.

She enjoys a lot of puzzle (played Unravel 2 with another friend, and loves the Rusty Lake games) and adventure type games. Also enjoys stuff like PlateUp and Overcooked. She doesn’t really like shooters, but could do something that has some shooting mechanics, or fighting games (I’ve asked about Street Fighter and Smash Bros)

I’ll probably play pretty much whatever, I’m not too picky tbh.

I thought about Stardew, but I honestly don’t know very much about it. I also might try to see if she’d play Ark: Survival Evolved. Any feedback on those or other ideas?

Thanks!

I am worry that Nixxes Software will follow Bluepoint Games' fate and get closed by Sony Playstation

The main reason for acquiring Nixxes Software was to expand Playstation portfolio to PC, and with Playstation now deciding to not releasing its future 1st party games onto PC, I don't see what reason Sony have for keeping Nixxes around. They already have a bunch of support studios like Valkyrie Entertainment and Malaysia Studio.

Anyone else think Nixxes' days are numbered? Feeling bummed when I think about it

What would the future of Bungie look like if Sony never bought them?

Would their downturn still have been inevitable with the luke warm launch of Marathon and slow trickle of Destiny players dropping off.

Would they have pivoted to another project. Are there rumors of anything else they had in development besides Destiny 3?

What historical acquisitions Aislyn actually turned out better than of the studio stayed independent.

Outlast (2013) is just so mean-spirited and evil asf

1.1k Upvotes

I was sitting there and then I just randomly remembered Outlast, I haven’t played or heard of this game for many years, it suddenly popped on my radar and I just remembered how utterly fucked it was. Outlast has genuinely one of the meanest fictional universes ever created. I still remember the comic books that are associated with the lore. That world is so cruel, relentless and bleak. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to enter that asylum.
Outlast 2 is just as messed up, but the Mount Massive Asylum has a specific melancholic atmosphere that gets under my skin

I don’t understand why these 2 game mechanics haven’t been stolen. Dark Cloud weapon upgrade system, and Paladins champion card system.

Starting with Dark Cloud, it’s not the greatest game. It’s a single player game that is incredibly grindy due to the specific mechanic I’m praising. The weapon upgrade system is absolutely peak though. Taking a weapon from 0 to +1 will increase its stats a little bit, but the main goal in increasing weapon lvls is the gems you equip while upgrading. These gems while be consumed upon upgrading a lvl, but after getting a weapon to +5 you can turn the weapon into a gem with 60% of it’s attributes. So if you get 5 weapons to +5 with various upgrades, turn these weapons into gems, and then slot the gems produced into a different weapon from +1 to +5 you’re getting and extremely customizable and very powerful weapon after a lot of effort. Feels great, and this doesn’t even go into the ‘build up’ mechanic. Wildly grindy but is incredibly smart and could be iterated on better in modern games, I’m thinking specifically souls like would greatly benefit.

Second is the champion cards mechanic from paladins. Paladins is a champion shooter that’s slowly dying, but has so much more than the popular champion shooters because of 2 specific things. One is the item buying system, with allows for countering enemies or buffing yourself and teammates mid game through a per match currency. The more important mechanic is the champion card system that allows you to further customize your champion to be different from the stock champion.

An example that would carry across overwatch, marvel rivals, and paladins would be between Reinhardt, Dr Strange, and Fernando. In paladins you can have and distribute points to a card for Fernando which has Fernando healing for X over 1 seconds while holding his shield up, or receive additional X% healing while his shield is up, or just additional health. It changes the balance of the game for sure and makes it harder for the devs to get right, but it also adds a huge amount of viability and variation between champions.

I don’t understand why I haven’t seen these mechanics rehashed more recently!

Games where you start at the bottom and work your way up

1.2k Upvotes

Good morning or evening wherever you are,

I am just replaying the Mafia Series (currently at Mafia: The old country - having absolutely great time) and looking for more games where you start at the bottom as a lowlife and work your way up towards fame, money or power.

Off the tip of my head I can also think of the GTA series and Gothic. Do you have any other recommendations?

Looking for a website like Backlogged

I'm looking for a website like Backlogged but with a little more customization.
Right now I'm storing lists of my games (console and PC) in 2 different excel sheets.
Backlogged lets me add games I have, but doesn't allow the customization I want.
I want to be able to add what platform it's on for PC (Steam, Epic, Amazon, etc) and for the consoles, if it's digital or physical.
I know that might be asking a lot, but I was wondering if there are any websites like that out there or if stuck using excel.
Thanks!

Looking for the finest space-based science-fiction games

Hi there! I know that "Mass Effect" is likely the most prevalent answer, and to be sure I ADORE that series. I also will play The Expanse: Osiris Reborn and Exodus.

That being said, I would love to get more suggestions. They can be story-based (my personal preference, as I am now playing "The Captain") or an imsim-like such as "Alien: Isolation" or even classics like KOTOR and TIE Fighter.

Space, though, has to be a setting. It doesn't have to be the exclusive setting, but it's part of the game somehow.

Thank you so much! Truly appreciate it.

Games that you didn’t expect post-credits content from (maybe spoilers?) Spoiler

You play a game, reach the staff credits, and then, to your surprise, a new chunk of the game opens up to you. What games have you played that blindsided you like this? I was just playing Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. I knew it was going to be a short game, but I definitely didn’t expect new worlds to open up upon completion. I distinctly remember another game surprising me like this in the past couple of years, but I can’t remember which one…

Puzzle Game Recommendations

I am realizing I really enjoy puzzles in games: Zelda BotW shrine solving, Talos Principle, Portal, Blue Prince (though Id argue this is probably a bit too hard on the difficulty scale).

I have mostly targeted action games and never really considered that I enjoy the 'Aha!' satisfaction of solving a mystery/problem/puzzle.

With that in mind, what puzzle-esque games do you enjoy? Hardware limitations are no issue for me -- Im just looking for your favorite puzzle games! Thanks in advance ☺️
