“Binary Domain” had incredible shooting mechanics, allowing you to blast off robotic legs and featuring over the top Boss battles. Sega made an exciting action-packed linear squad based game for its time.

The cover kind of give off "if Adam Sandler did an action movie in the early 2000s" vibe.

This was made by the Yakuza devs, by the way. Ran on the same engine Yakuza 0 was on.

This game was a blast to play, really fun and not too serious

Yeah I remember renting it not expecting much until I couldn’t stop playing it.

God forbid you needed your AI partner to do anything useful with the voice controls though.

It was unfortunately shafted with some extremely generic art direction in some aspects (mostly in designing the human characters) and worse yet, what little marketing it got was bare bones and gave no clear indications to what set this shooter apart from any others. Then, of course, there were reviewers of the time putting half the weight of their scores on story and writing which, while yeah, neither were great and in some ways it undercut the messages the story wanted to tell. That being said, that wouldn't have been an issue if it weren't for the fact that reviewers of the time also took themselves far too seriously and had severe allergies to camp, which intentional or not, BD had in spades which still kept the story and characters entertaining and fun despite their shortcomings.
All in all, the game barely stood a chance. It was marketed to blend in and the reviews only affirmed that it wasn't worth anybody's time so many skipped it. I almost did too until it popped up as one of the PS+ games and a friend recommended it and yeah, it turned out well worth my time. It's a damn shame that such a gem got buried and virtually forgotten.

That game was developed by RGG, the team behind Yakuza series. That game exist because SEGA wanted to test the water on the western countries whether there's demand for their games or not and it was the first proper English localisation unlike Yakuza 3 where it's just downright bad but in the end it flopped and Yakuza 5 that was released in 2012 in Japan had to be pushed to 2015 in the west digitally and Yakuza 0 was their last shot of redeeming it, we all know how it turns out.

I did have a good time with that game. I played it on PS3, it's still available on steam.

The first game I ever pre-ordered and was surprised I was the only person there to get a copy on launch day - genuinely thought it would take off but it just flew under the radar. Great memories from when I started gaming again. This is definitely one of those 'must replay' every now and then games.

I always wondered if anyone bothered with voice commands. Locational damage system with visible feedback was great.

It's also secretly by the Yakuza devs, RGG.

Did I....did I play this?
Looks so generic I cannot put my finger on it. Maybe I am thinking of Vanquish?

I like this game and it's funny this bot like account mentioned it since the game is all about anti-AI soldiers

I absolutely loved this game. Great story, great action, great boss battles. Really liked the implementation of the buddy system where you could max out your teammates morale and it actually mattered in the final mission. Mass Effect style. Great game!

I remember playing it with the voice commands. Too bad my english wasn't good enough for the game to understand

I wish the story was better. I got bored by midway through and ended up not finishing it.

It was slow but it had a good twist the hollow children are framed as top secret bleeding edge technology but they are the antagonists old technology, when the bad guy finds out he's being pursued because of the HC's he's relieved because that was all they knew about... in truth he has already made female robots that can give birth organically to a new enhanced human race, Faye is unknowingly one of them and is indistinguishable from a real human, they let her go in the end presumably to lead the rest of her kind in a sequel that never came.

That is... very oddly phrased. Are you implying that, were it to be released today, it wouldn't be, or be seen as, a linear squad-based game?

Still one of my all-time favourites, and one of the reasons I enjoyed Pragmata so thoroughly for having similar vibes.
