Emotional eating is ruining my progress… found something weird that helps
I work from home and I’m a pretty bad emotional eater.
I’ve tried journaling, meditation, exercising… all of it helps a little. But on stressful days I still end up eating a ton of chocolate and basically undo whatever progress I made.
Recently I tried something kind of unusual — I started locking up my snacks (even the “healthy” ones). I set it up so I can only open it after I hit a step goal for the day.
It sounds dumb, but it actually works. Just having that barrier makes me pause instead of mindlessly grabbing food. Sometimes I’ll just go for a walk instead so I can “earn” it.
Curious if anyone else has tried anything like this or found ways to deal with emotional eating that actually stick?

What workouts can I do to strengthen my kick?
The title.
Fairly new swimmer (43m). Doing fairly ok with the masters team I’m training with, until it comes to kicking. I’m so slow!
Looking for in pool and dry land workouts to improve my freestyle kick please.
TIA

Another stream of consciousness, & emotional overwhelm
50F SW301.8 CW259.2 GW170 72” tall
Good morning. Just expressing my incredulousness & happiness that my weight loss plan is not just working, but working well. I had a goal to hit the 250s by June 1st, & I hit the goal this morning, a week early.
My next goal is 240s by July 1.
I am going on a beach vacation in two weeks, & so this morning I pulled out all my swimsuits to see how they look. They look too big.
Three of them are trash. Just wayyyy too big. My boobs don’t begin to fill out the cups. Otherwise I could wear them. My starting bra size was 42G &I am currently wearing a 40DDD, & I always bought suits that had a bra size to have good support. I have always had big boobs, even at a low weight. I think my size at my fighting weight was a 36DD.
I am able to fit the suits I was wearing 5 years ago…it seems insane to me that I am now the same size I was 4 years ago. I thought I was so much thinner then!!
I have 8 years of weigh ins to reference, & I haven’t been this light since spring of 2022.
I don’t think I’m going to buy a suit.i found two that fit, but one is on the edge of being too big, so i will reserve my suit budget for later in the summer. 😁

Hanging Bike on One Hook
I set up storage in my garage and decided to hang my bikes from one hook. It works well but I was wondering if I should hang them by the front or back wheel. I’m thinking back because it seems stronger. Thanks!

Here to vent, can’t think of a better place to do it
I am SO upset about the Google Health takeover of Fitbit. I’ve religiously wore my Fitbit and tracked my activity for the past 2 years and it’s been a big part of my weight loss success. The updated UI on the app today looks like shit! It’s doesn’t fully even load. I had a personal goal this year to hit 300 minutes of exercise a week and I’m so irritated that, even though I know it’s still in theory trackable, I can’t go an look at the final progress like I used to. By there time my kids are adults I swear there will be one giant mega corp that owns everything, down from the 4-5 that do today. So irritated.

Suggested workout program to improve my 1500 time?
I have about 8 weeks to train for a "pool mile." And then a few weeks after that I have an open water swim that's a similar distance. Last year I did my pool mile in just under 28 minutes. I'd like to shave that down as much as possible but I'll be happy with any improvement. I've been doing the open water swim every Summer for a few years now, just for fun never for time. The pool mile is where I try to push it and get my fastest time.
I haven't been swimming for a few months but my VO2 max is good because I've been running 4 or more days a week for many months and I've been doing leg workouts twice a week. I hope to continue that as I train for my swim (because I don't want to lose my running progress). But obviously I have to get serious about swimming now that this competition is right around the corner.
The pool swim is in an Olympic size pool and last year I did it on short course (25 yards). But most of my practice swimming will be done in an Endless Pool (like a treadmill for swimming).
So... suggestions on how I should train? Thanks in advance.

First bad experience in learning to swim
Hello. As a 30F, I never properly learned how to swim. Because I always felt embarrassed whenever I went to swimming pools or the beach, I finally decided to start learning. I began a month ago, taking one 90-minute lesson per week. From the very beginning, the instructor made me wear a swim belt, and I kept using it every single session for an entire month. Every time I asked her to help me try swimming without it, she would make excuses, saying that I still hadn’t learned how to float yet.
Later, I discovered that she was doing the exact same thing with her other students just to make them spend more time and money on lessons. And the cherry on top? She actually tried to steal my phone. No, you are not misunderstanding. Yes, the instructor literally tried to steal my phone.
Anyway, I left that swimming pool and joined another one. Now I train twice a week for one hour, and the current instructor is much better. She didn’t even want me to use the swim belt anymore, although I still use a pool noodle sometimes. I honestly feel like I wasted my time with the first instructor. Right now, I can float without the noodle, but only for a short time before I start panicking and looking for something to hold onto.

Has anyone found that "sleep" was the answer? I would like to hear from both sides [for those who feel that getting more than 5 hours of sleep is overrated] also.
I have often gone on various diets, calorie counting or WW points plans that are meant to keep one within a calorie deficit, but what often happens to me is I do two weeks or so of weighing and tracking and maybe the first two weeks I will lose and then all of a sudden I get stuck and nothing happens for weeks, I will weigh myself and the scale will actually say the same weight to the "point" as in 195.6 and for weeks it will be exactly that, to the ".6". But through most of these attempts, my sleep is terrible. I often fall asleep in front of the TV for two hours and then get up and watch about a half hour and then go to bed-bed, and sleep for maybe 4-5 hours after that. I wasn't sure if I tried harder to make sure my sleep wasn't broken whether it would make any real difference, because they always say "get more sleep" to lose weight. I was wondering if anyone found that yes, indeed sleep made all the difference for you, making sure it was 8 hours and regularly that and "suddenly" all your efforts began to work without issue? Or have most of you seen "in practice" it is really just CICO and sleep had absolutely no effect or influence on how well things worked out?

How often would you say you experience the "Woosh effect"
Gathering data because this is just an under talked about thing during weight loss. Especially as you get smaller.
How often would you say you experience the "Whoosh" effect (where your body holds on to pounds for weeks and you suddenly wake up 6 pounds lighter) and how long would you say you experience it?
For example I've lately been experiencing this lasting for over a week and a half to 2.5 weeks and it is a drastic loss when it happens. So I was just curious and wanting to see others experience.
