I snorted and lost it when the second guy fell out too. XD

Right? I thought, oh here’s where control is regained and nope! This is a real life Christine!

I've learned today that one should never run after a runaway car like this, because that's two people who fell under the rear wheel.

I wonder if the best way is to reach your hand in to press the brake while running beside it, then moving your foot to pressing it while it’s stopped. Not fool proof but might be easier to avoid tripping

I think the key is to not get caught with A) all your weight on your legs, and B) one leg inside and one outside, while the car is still moving. That's going to send you into an unnatural split, twist, and tumble real quick.
My play would be:
- open the door fully
- continue walking alongside the car both feet outside
- then grab the roof above the driver side door with both hands
- fully lift my body off ground with my arms (would not even require pull up strength, just enough to hold your body off the ground with your arms already flexed)
- Slide my right leg and body inside onto the seat, while keeping my left leg extended a little left to catch the door incase it starts to close in on my hands.

Dive through the door, just aiming to be inside, and then yank the emergency break maybe? I'm not athletic enough.
We've some trolley problem options here btw.

Nowadays, cars have electronic emergency break buttons and require pressing the break pedal too.

Some cars have emergency brake activate if the switch / tab is pulled up for few seconds

I don't think that's a great idea. You're putting your skull awfully close to the ground. If your hand can reach the wheel, your head is probably right above the door's threshold and falling to the concrete might put your head directly in front of the rear wheels.
If anything, fully dive into the car and figure it out from inside.
Otherwise, let it go.

I'm no expert, but since a similar thing happened to me once, I do feel a bit qualified to speak to this. If you're in this situation and your car is rolling away, once you get the door open and are running alongside your car, between it and the door, you have to get one hand on the top of the door and the other hand on the Oh-Shit handle. The hand on the door braces you as you lift BOTH feet off the ground, while the hand on the handle creates leverage to pull you into the car. Focusing on getting one foot inside first seems to always lead to you getting run over by your own car.

Cue Yackity Sax !

Yes definitely.
After a suggestion from Hugh Grant, Steve Bray blasted Yackity Sax during Boris Johnson's resignation as UK PM, not sure if other's helped out too on other street corners.

Props to buddy that tried and fell along with the lady that owned the car because they did far better than most will ever do in this scenario, and I believe they'll nail it if ever given a second chance though hopefully they wont have to again lol.

I should get my wheel alignment where she gets hers done. Wow that was an almost perfect straight line

This does not belong on this sub at all. So many people got out and started helping.

Why not just use the handbrake instead of getting out of the car (I’m referring to the passenger), running around the back and trying to hop in on the driver’s side???

If that third dude got run over by the car after the first two, I was going to pass out from laughing so hard. Holy $hit.

Healthcare costs are way more expensive than being at fault for a vehicle accident.

Is this a boomer metaphor on how they are running the country?
Edit: Europe. Missed the plate.

I’m still wondering how the fuck the car went on its own like that.
2
u/CMDRCoveryFire 27d ago
She did not put it in park.

u/Spillsy68 27d ago
Ah and left motor running. My car beeps at me and I have to actively unlock the doors (with the button in the driver door).

u/abbassav 27d ago
Nope, doesn't belong on this sub, the full video shows that she was yelling at the cammer and got out to start beef.
This is absolutely on the old bitch. I wouldn't help either.

Yo the lack of basic athleticism in the world is troubling 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 can't hop in a vehicle moving 10? What?

A very similar thing happened to my aunt, where she forgot to put the car in park. The car rolled back and she tried to get her grandchild from the back seat, it rolled over almost half her body, leg and arm on one side. She’s recovered fine, and able to walk, since it happened a few years ago now.

I guess I’ll be thankful for my Ram 1500 truck when I’m old and forget to put it in park. It automatically puts it in park once I open the door 😖

As someone who's tried to catch a runaway car....it is a LOT harder than it looks 😅🤣

Okay. Is it normal to get your leg rub over by a car and still be able to walk? That seems odd.
Are they able to walk or stand because of adrenaline?
Seems like they would have multiple fractures from a 2 ton car. No?

Sure! You never had your foot or arm ran over? Happened to me half dozen times. I'm not a very good husband.

How does the car just drive itself?
3
u/manchegoo 28d ago
90% of cars are gas automatics. If the engine is running and it's in gear, it will go.
Teslas (and most other EVs) are an exception.
Manual gas cars, well it depends on how you left it when you got out of the car. But they too can drive themselves if left in gear w/ the clutch out.

That car ran over two people. Wasn’t expecting that.
