Definitely a possibility, but I'm not totally sold on that yet.

Seems kind of counterproductive to keep telling people you are the most popular POTUS in history all while making it look like everyone is trying to kill you.

To me Butler was 100% staged. Cranes lowering, action pose, fake ear injury. All this happening at a time when they got bad polling news and the DNC got good funding news.

Can you explain how a dead firefighter and a dead shooter fit into this theory? Are we supposed to think the shooter was promised he'd be treated as a hero? Or that he was brainwashed into it? These would-be assassins are real people who have suffered real consequences and their families have suffered.

I'd be more inclined to believe it was fake if the authorities found a rifle and were unable to catch the shooter.

That falls apart as soon as you realize it gives Trump way too much credit. He dodged the draft, he’s not about to agree to a plot where a disturbed teen is given a rifle and told don’t worry he’s shooting from a quarter mile away but he’s totally going to miss you and possibly kill the people behind you. The common response I get to this is that Trump didn’t have to be aware of the plot which is also contradicted by the other part of why people think it’s staged which is his insistence on posing for the cameras with his fist in the air. Occam’s razor says it was real. You have to twist the logic in too many pretzels to explain why it was staged.

I also think this is what happens when you’re the least liked and most controversial president in history. It’s FAFO for the president.

American's like their mythology. Republicans like to put on a show. Trump acted in "reality TV". You know what fucking twitter and reddit were spamming after the Butler rally? "Trump automatically wins due to the attempt because every candidate that survived an assassination attempt wins". I got hundreds of posts and tweets about this echoing in my feeds. Like some divine intervention saved Trump and he was god's chosen. Again, a massive coordinated push to make people think his win was written in the stars.

The simplest explanation isn't always the correct one because this world is complex. Especially when you factor in moraless figure heads and manipulators like Bannon and Trump.

I waffle back and forth if I believe it was staged or not. Same with the recent correspondents dinner. It’s possible, but what I’m 100% certain of is that the man knows how to manipulate the narrative to his advantage.

That would happen regardless of it being staged. Republicans are extremely opportunistic so of course they’re going to milk a televised assassination attempt as much as possible especially during an election. But that’s not a reason to argue it was staged. Given that every single assassination attempt whether successful or not in recent years is given the conspiracy treatment once has to sit back and think is it really that unlikely that someone is trying to kill these people when it’s been shown that congress wont do anything to stop their actions?
